What exactly is the FBI investigating? Why was it kept secret from other intelligence chiefs, if that's what happened? That matters, if we're trying to gauge what happened last week.
Is it a FARA (Foreign Agent Registration Act) case involving former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn or a lower-level knucklehead like Carter Page?
Since FARA is violated more or less daily in Washington and largely ignored by authorities unless it involves someone without political connections (an awful lot of important people in Washington who appear to be making fortunes lobbying for foreign countries are merely engaged in "litigation support," if you ask them), it would be somewhat anticlimactic to find out that this was the alleged crime underlying our current white-hot constitutional crisis.

Hillary planted the seed in one of her debates. She probably thought she was being subtle mentioning Russia. The minute she said it, I thought, “Aha! THAT’S how they’re going to rationalize things if she loses the election.” That debate was exactly where it started.
The GOPe handed off their dirty made up gossip to the liberals to stop Trump!!!!! And you Cruz zealots, your man was in this up to his eyeballs.
The whole "The Russians Hacked the DNC!" affair was cooked up by the Hillary campaign in concert with Trump's enemies in the intelligence community as a way for the media and the Democrats to distract the public from the embarrassing WikiLeaks e-mail disclosures during Hillary's election campaign of the DNC colluding with the media, their trashing of Bernie Sanders, etc.
There are were two actual leaks. The first happened when Hillary's campaign manager, John Podesta, responded to a 'change your password' phish email. He clicked on it and gave away his password. It was a trick that could have been done by a 14 year old. Podesta used the same password for his gmail, Twitter, Facebook, etc. No skills involved, anybody could have done it, and there is no evidence of elite 'Russian hackers' using sophisticated or deep techniques to infiltrate his laptop. Podesta was just an idiot.
Second, all of the alleged evidence of "Russian fingerprints" on the so-called hacked DNC servers comes from just one guy: Dmitry Alperovitch, the Russian ex-pat head of the shady security firm CrowdStrike, whom the DNC had paid to check their servers.
There is a flattering article on Dmitry in Esquire where Dmitry brags about how he 'discovered the Russian hackers' using his fancy counterhacker tools (basically a free advertisement for CrowdStrike). This all started in 2011 when idiots in the Obama Administration made the decision for Arab Spring, and using social media (Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, etc) to revolutionize ‘democracy’. The list of affected countries would eventually include Russia.
At the end of 2011...came a Russian Parliament election and four months later...the Presidential election. All of a sudden...here came these opposition groups who used social media to a huge degree and challenged the Putin campaign effort.
When the smoke cleared...Putin was furious at the meddling involved and looked at the US. The person hyping up this effort? Sec of State Hillary Clinton. She was the face of the whole effort. So they waited.
In the beginning of 2016, they went to spark up fake news and biased reporting just like like the US efforts were done in 2011/2012. Same tools, same tactics. Bernie got a lift because of this. Later, Trump got a lift.
Russiagate....if word fits....really starts with Arab-Spring-gate, and comes to Hillary’s unfocused meddling in Russian politics. Never once did these idiots think or worry about their meddling triggering the Russians to meddle as well.

After that happens, what will be the Deep State's new Fake News focus? A fake news focus based again on unnamed sources to try and discredit President Trump?

What happens when I am watching local news at night? Do I leave it on to watch the late night comics when I would usually flip between the two Jimmy's or that Colbert guy if I am in the mood? Nope. I switch it over to "Friends" reruns.

This is misdirection to point us away from what hillary was doing. She is the one who was wheeling and dealing with theUS uranium in a pay for play arrangement which netted the ClintonFoundation hundreds of millions of dollars. Come worked for the Foundation and he is towing the line. He and Mueller worked for clinton in hiding billions through BCCI. It has now taken on a life of its own. The dems found a tangential association between lynne and the Russians, and are in the process of writing a fiction to make people think Trump and company were they bad guys. The dems are writing the curve and Trump et.al. are piecing together what in the world are these people talking about. Trump needs a much higher index of suspicion.
