By not doing so he lends credence to the story and appears to have perjured himself (5 years) and committed misprision of felony (3 years).
Why aren’t reporters questioning Comey?
He can’t denounce it...he knows he lied...right now he’s trying to stay out of the way of the Clintons, Obamas and probably the Bushes...
