John says we're up but we still have some configuration problems, but they're going to have to wait until he gets home (3 hours). His laptop is not working and the only way he can get in is by his phone and that's giving errors. He's afraid others on mobile devices may be getting errors too. We're on a new version of the db software now and apparently there are some compatibility issues. And we're sporting some new drives including a new SSD (solid state) drive. Should be working pretty good after he works out the configuration problems, then he has to finish the sha-256 installation for security for credit cards. Then on to a total redesign of the system. It never ends.

Drop FR into the cloud on a VM with geo redundancy. They even snap an image at intervals you designate and drop that wherever you like...

After spending a lot of time in data centers I can understand that sometimes things go “boom”.
Maybe it’s time to platform on vmware or go to the cloud? It is possible to get to where things are almost unbreakable or very easy to set back in place.
If it’s a matter of money maybe a fundraiser with $$$ earmarked for upgrading might be in order. Or, start using the site for advertising of some kind.
It’s great that things are back and running.

Jim, what you say makes no sense. Why isn’t John’s laptop working? Even if the laptop is broken, why wouldn’t you have the data center pull a crash cart to your rack so you can get in that way? It takes only a couple of minutes. I’m sorry, but none of the explanations for this outage make any sense at all to IT professionals.
