Issa is running scared. He won re-election by a tiny margin. The Democrats are gunning for his seat. He is making a big mistake. He will never win any Democrats to his side. He is going to piss off his conservative base (yes there are a lot of conservatives in his district). If 100 or 200 conservatives decide to stay home on election day he will be toast.
Issa is something of a strange bird. He made lots of money in a car stereo business, for which I do not fault him one iota, in fact, I applaud it.
Somehow he got elected to Congress. But he’s distinctly not a very smart guy. He just isn’t. I don’t fault him for that either.
But he really buggered up plenty of Benghazi and other hearings pretending he was an attorney by asking questions that arrived at no conclusions, they only opened up areas of doubt and generated bifurcations. I actually wrote him a letter telling him to STOP.
It would be typical of him to perceive that the Trump-Russia connection is somehow real and that he better shift his whatever to appeal to some Dem voters. You have it precisely correct, he won’t win a one. But he’ll blow his Republican/conservative base easily.
I wish politicians today would show more of the character of John Stennis, who replied to his advisors telling him what he had to do to win. He reminded them, “We don’t have to win.”
