The two colluded to arrange to feed Rice raw, anti-Trump material for the express purpose of distributing the CIA's anti-Trump intel via the President's Daily Briefings (PDB's)...... or elsewhere.
As a bonus, Rice got to "unmask" someone.
This was all an arranged game in which Rice colluded to strengthen the Democrats attack against Trump for dear, old Hillary......thereby pumping Rice's bona fides to become Hillary's Secy of State.

A Wall Street Journal editorial took issue with Rice's assertions (actually its more like her deranged mindset). Democrats in 2005 had claimed the appalling practices she engaged in were rare for a political appointees like Rice. Rice had no direct intelligence duties in her role as Obama's national security adviser.
“Ms. Rice had no direct intelligence duties in her NSC post, and no Democrat has provided a valid reason that Ms. Rice might have needed to unmask anyone associated with the Trump presidential campaign,” the Wall Street Journal editorial said.....
So Rice also lied to her employer? As of March 2017, Rice has begun a job as a Distinguished Visiting Research Fellow in the American University’s School of International Service.
She told the school her position with Obama involved providing the President with daily national security briefings and was ‘responsible for’ coordinating the formulation and implementation of ‘all aspects’ of the Administration’s foreign and national security policy, intelligence, and military efforts.
She said nothing about her investigative intel activities.
