I can understand the anger, and if someone wishes to calmly speak with the manager or even briefly with the employees about a boycott decision, I can totally get on board with that.
Some posts made it seem like the Freeper was going to lash out at the local store employees, which is just wrong.
I don't think it's right to do so to a manager either, but better them than the employees.

I agree completely.

I find that speaking directly, calmly, and reasonably to someone who can do something about your concern, or pass it up the chain, in a friendly manner, is more effective.
