cripes...and they’ve both been around longer than LZ.
yikes...must be giving a lot of money to get Cooper off the golf course.
Bought their first , second and third albums back in the day . Dug the first 2 but traded the third with a friend . Don’t remember what I got in exchange . Never bought another Zep album .
I recently their last reunion concert in 2007-2009 time frame. Forget the date. Check it out if you have not seen it — on video and available via youtube. They played very well. I hope they play again.
I guess they will play their reunion tour at the Sunny Shade Retirement Home....then promptly sit down for a game of Bingo....
That was the “Celebration Day” concert, I believe. I saw that at a local cinema that ran it as a one-show special presentation... very nicely done. Some of the pre-show warmup numbers were caught on video and are on YouTube, also worthwhile as variations on familiar themes.
I got that box set a few years back - West Was Won. Rather disappointed in their live performances. If that’s the best they have to offer of their live performances, I’ll stick to their studio albums.
Sorry, studied these guys - Zep better than Who on their best day. Pete knows it, has commented in it, and another reason to make him angry
“Sorry, studied these guys - Zep better than Who on their best day.”
Bonham versus Moon - Bonham wins .
Page versus Townshend - Page wins .
Plant versus Daltrey - Plant wins .
Jones versus Entwhistle - Entwhistle wins .
But I was a huge Who fan until Moon died . Owned only the first 2 Zep albums .
Well, at the risk of offending. Yep, I was a big fan and Plant’s solo stuff as well...Honeydrippers.
That said, concert may be long...will Robbie have a diaper and what if his levee breaks during the set?
I always loved all the references to Tolkien Middle Earth...love it.
Its aint Zeppelin without Bonham.
.............
You’re right, but his son is a pretty fine drummer.
Page Vs Towsend, Clapton and Hendrix in a tag team match Pagey wins.
Rain Song - tuning that Pagey invented
Achilles Last Stand - a musical scale that did not exist
Nuff said
My fav Led Zep song!
But onstage visually The Who were a much better band to watch than Zeppelin.
Dear, Your Wrong
Led Zeppelin stole their music.
The Who wrote theirs.
Mine is “No Quarter.”
Not exactly. Beck and Page were in the band together for a while. Clapton quit the Yardbirds after they had their first hit single because he thought they were becoming too commercial, not staying with their blues roots enough. They went to Page to ask him to join, but he had 6 months worth of studio work lined up and turned them down. He recommended Beck to them. When their bass player quit their original rhythm guitarist switched to bass, and Page joined along with Beck. Beck quit when after months of continuous touring they finally got paid, and it was a tiny amount of money with the record company taking almost all of it for expenses.
I liked JPJ’S electric bass ideas, and Bonham’s style worked for that band. Page developed some good catchy hooks. And Plant, somehow convinced that the masses that screech owls sounded good.
But I heard Plant a couple years ago with his band of rock-meets-world musicians and it was a really good performance. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Previous to that I saw Led Zeppelin at the Baltimore Civic Center when their 4th album was released. They played very well indeed, had a middle set of III acoustic numbers and really played well. One the better shows I ever attended.
The Baltimore Civic Center was a nice sounding room, which added to the experience. I caught a number of shows there and they all sounded good in that room.
I had heard that. Also, in 69 or so they toured in their first tour with Vanilla Fudge, and in a rare arrangement, the band whose album was rated higher in each city headlined in that city.
