Our only child (millennial) moved to Texas last year to continue with her job she started two years now. She wasn't forced to leave the state. She chose to. I think the business trip to Texas a few months into her employment convinced her she wanted to move there almost as much as she wanted to get the hell out of California.
Other than her parents, she has very little emotional ties to California or the Bay Area. While it was sad to see her move that far away, she is enjoying her life. Most millennials in the Bay Area don't look all that happy, and that includes those fortunate to find employment.

Sounds like NJ; as those ageing parents die off, there is nothing to keep young Americans here. The employment situation forces many to leave while their parents are still here, though most retirees have to sell their homes upon retirement. Fixed incomes can’t cope with property taxes of $10K+...
