Deal on Government Funding Reached, Averting Shutdown; No Funding for the Wall
NBC News ^ | 05/01/2017 | by LEIGH ANN CALDWELL, KASIE HUNT and FRANK THORP V

A deal has been reached on a $1 trillion-plus bill to fund the government for the final five months of this fiscal year, an agreement that is likely to avert a government shutdown.

Congressional negotiators had been working through the weekend to hash out the last remaining complications in a bill to fund the government before the agreement was announced Sunday night.

After President Donald Trump backed down on funding for the construction of a border wall, some additional sticking points remained, including health benefits for coal miners, funding for Puerto Rico and an additional $30 billion for defense, delaying congressional negotiators and causing them to miss their deadline of last Friday. Congress passed and Trump signed into law a one-week extension to keep the government open and give negotiators more time.

The newly reached deal includes an additional $15 billion in defense spending, less than what Trump asked for, but still $25 billion more than last year's spending. It also includes a permanent fix to fund coal miners' health care instead of a temporary extension.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of New York called the deal "a good agreement for the American people" that "takes the threat of a government shutdown off the table."

"The bill ensures taxpayer dollars aren't used to fund an ineffective border wall, excludes poison pill riders and increases investments in programs that the middle-class relies on, like medical research, education and infrastructure," Schumer said Sunday night.

"Early on in this debate, Democrats clearly laid out our principles," he said. "At the end of the day, this is an agreement that reflects those principles."

RE:”62 million Trump voters just got pissed on. If Trump does not veto this it will hurt him badly. This is total bull crap. ....
Trump must NOT sigh this abomination or everything he has promised us was a bald faced LIE!! I know he must be pissed off.”

Trump doesn't want a shutdown anymore than Ryan and McConnell do.

He will sign it happily.

Sh*t like this leads to "one and done" presidency and GOP majority lost.

Our stupid government is scared of prudent security of our borders, fiscal responsibility and prevention of the slaughter of babies among a plethora of other stupid things.

This administration is looking like a morphing of Bush/Obama.

I love what a previous Freeper stated:"SWAMP WINS!"

After spending 30 plus trillion dollars over the last 8 years on every unconstitutional project that Obama could conjure up, Congress is now putting it's foot down on protecting the American people from foreign invasion.

Their reason for being.

Tar, feathers, congressmen, earplugs...some assembly required.

Trump is looking more like liberal New York filth with each passing day. DACA promise broken (this was going to be rescinded Day 1), obamacare promise broken, Wall promise broken, Bannon on the outs, Jared/Ivanka/Gary in, more neo-con wars with the Syria attack, etc.

Paging Rand or Ted, someone needs to represent us.

“This administration is looking like a morphing of Bush/Obama.”

This is one man against a 4 trillion dollar anti-American corrupt stasi state. One man against both ‘parties’, the courts, and fakestream media. Only a demented moron or a cruzhole could make a statement that stoopid.

RE:”Then, sir, he stands for nothing and we are truly doomed. No doubt about it. I guess I was naive. I hope you are wrong.”

Libs here were so upset at Trump's proposed budget, cutting EPA etc.

I told them the budget he signs will look nothing like it, and it doesnt.

VETO! yes by,all means, there is no easy way. How sad that Trump must fight both Parties, and do as he said. This is in fact what is meant by “ Draining the Swamp “. The goal will be the next next Government shutdown threat in September. In the meantime Planned Parenthood and Sanctuary Cities continue to be funded, and the Wall is not funded. Everything our heroic GOP said they would give Trump, including repealing Obamacare, did not happen. This goes beyond fear of media and the Democrats. K Street and the big contributors own and write legislation. Our Congress is following the money, not the people .

Trump, and his veto is our only hope to change this. We voted him in because we thought he had the guts and the independents to do this, but no mistake this will be a political battle to the death and he will have absolutely no help from leadership in either party. We must throw them out!! We need to give Trump all the help we can give him, by organizing and pressuring congressmen in our own districts, independent of the GOP if necessary; if they lie, throw the yellow, gutless, hacks

Trump will have to take-on every corrupt interest that actually runs Washington D.C.. We must flood that town with encouragement for the Trump veto, and his courage to take the the return fire, including a Great Shutdown until this war that is bleeding our country to death, finally brings that entire establishment to it’s knees.

This is what the election was about, and there can be no quarter again. This must be resolved.

Why should the wall be in the budget if Mexico is going to pay for it? They’ll have to take cartel money, tax money going to Mexico, etc. and earmark that for the wall. I don’t want the wall in THE budget and neither should anyone at FR.

OK, here are questions:

1) Where’s the plan to make Mexico pay for it?

2) What happened to the bill to seize cartel money to fund the Wall?

Here’s my question to you cruzhole cultists...

Did congress balk at authorizing 30 plus trillion dollars in spending during Obama’s treason regime?

If not, then STFU.
