In terms of the entitlement programs, the biggest drivers of our debt, you need to either increase taxes or decrease benefits or some combination of both to keep these programs sustainable. Medicare has been running in the red since 2008 and SS since 2010.
Trump is smart not to take the lead on reforming SS and Medicare. The Dems will crucify him and the Reps if he does. It has to be bipartisan. The train wreck is unavoidable if nothing is done. The Trust Fund for Medicare is exhausted in 2028 and for SS in 2033, then by law, the benefits must be reduced to the revenue received, i.e., about 20%.
2028 and 2033 are a long way off why cant everyone agree on bumping up the age of eligibility say 6 months every year until we can afford what we are spending.?
