“I would submit that the problems with public education don’t always originate at the federal level”.

I would guestimate that 90% of the problems in education start with the parent. The rest is mostly from administrative bloat, and union corruption. Most of my freinds’ kids can read at a second grade level and do math problems before they get anywhere near kindergarten

I think the primary reason for getting the federal government out of education is not a question of effectiveness and whether kids learn to read and write.

The real threat is that the federal involvement in education will produce little leftists.

Look at the map of red / blue by county. It’s a sea of red rural areas with a scattering of small islands of blue urban areas with extremely high population densities.

Yet the blue actually outnumbers the red in a pure popular vote.

The differences between the two go way beyond colors - different values, different work ethic, different view of individual liberty vs the collective. Different in so many ways, and the federal government seeks to eliminate those differences.

I’m all for kids being taught effectively and getting a good education, but I suspect the tests which are supposed to measure effectiveness really exist to discredit local educators and justify more central control.

Don’t fall for it - federal control of education will be the death of the republic.
