That is what I have tried to instill in my kids, you are on your own 99.99% of the time. The cops and government have no obligation to protect of do anything for you.

A few years back we had a devastating snow storm, heavy wet snow, power lines down and trees everywhere. My oldest was about 12 and said lets wait for the county to come clear the road. I said you want to eat don’t you boy, if you wait on them you will starve. Don’t count on government at any level to take care of you. We chainsawed up about 20 trees on our road alone to make it to the main road and it was still covered in places a week later.

My uncle a WWII 3rd Army vet lived in a suburb of Detroit during the riots in 68 and the rioters started closing in on his neighborhood, all they had to do was cross a bridge into this quite neighborhood and him and a bunch of vets picked up their shotguns, handguns and hunting rifles and headed to the bridge. He had an M1 carbine like he carried in the war and the few cops who were at the bridge urged them to go home. They told the cops no dice, we will make our stand here, these scum are not coming into our neighborhood and burn us out, either help us or stay out of the way. The cops stood the line with them and the rioters never crossed the bridge.

The Koreans got it right during the riots, take care of yourself and your own.

The Koreans did what most everyone else was doing. By the time the 3rd day approached, it became pretty clear most were on their own.
