DeSoto coach Todd Peterman led the Eagles to the school's first state football title in December. Four months later, his future at DeSoto is in doubt.
A source close to the DeSoto football program said that, although DeSoto ISD superintendent David Harris has recommended Peterman for rehire, four of the seven DeSoto ISD trustees are expected to vote against Peterman at the school board meeting Monday night.
It is unknown why some of the trustees want a replacement for Peterson, who in March was named the Dallas Gridiron Club's 6A Coach of the Year.
Ex-Baltimore Ravens linebacker Zach Orr, a former DeSoto star, said on Twitter that race was involved in the decision. DeSoto is a predominantly black community, and Peterman is white.
Orr also urged the public to attend the meeting in support of Peterman.
Public comments are scheduled before the meeting, where citizens will be given the opportunity to make their case either way. The final discussion will be behind closed doors, so the dissenting trustees could still be persuaded to keep Peterman.
Peterman has been the head coach at DeSoto for two years, going 6-6 in 2015 and then leading the Eagles to a 16-0 season last year that included the Class 6A Division II title. Before taking over as head coach in 2015, Peterman was an assistant for DeSoto and served as offensive coordinator at a program that advanced to the state semifinals in 2012 and 2013. DeSoto finished 14-1 each of those seasons, with its only loss to eventual state champion Allen.
The board meeting begins at 6:30. The agenda includes actions on administrator and teacher contracts, which will come after a closed session by the trustees.
Sadly, it seems like being a football coach is a thankless job.
Did they beat Allen in 2016?
Racism against Whites is not illegal. The white race, especially white men are under attack even by other inferior whites who are prejudice and cannot make it on their own.
No, DeSoto beat Cibolo Steele for the state championship in the Division 2 finals, 38-29
Allen lost to The Woodlands in the Division 1 semis. 36-28
If I was the coach, I’d be trying to line up another job without waiting for the decision. If the Negros want to lynch the Cauc, he’d be better off getting out while he was on top.
Allen is Division 1 and Lost to the Woodlands.
Our Kids (Carroll Dragons) played Desoto in the second round of the playoffs.
There was a cheap shot by a Desoto player that injured a kid and a Carrol coach yelled something and of course Desoto heard the “N-Word” and drama ensued.
We were too banged up and missing players to hang with Desoto, but we knew that going in.
The Quarterback’s Mom is the girls Basketball coach for Desoto. They Recruited her from Denton Guyer and brought Denton Guyer’s starting Quarterback with her in the deal.
I wish this coach the best. He seemed to be able to motivate kids.
When their high priced minority coach and his entourage don’t pan out, they realize in 2-5 years the mistake they made.
His team went 16-0 and they want to get rid of him?
Insanity. Or pure racism.
He b da wrong hue.
50 years ago, if the quarterback was good his dad always had the job of janitor and housing available to him.
Your SL Carrol Dragons were tops a few years ago! Great teams.
I’m down the road a bit in GPVN and a mile from Colleyville Heritage, so get all the news on nearby HS football games.
Al MacNeil coached the Montreal Canadiens to the 1970-1971 Stanley Cup championship. In the off-season he was fied. Why?, because he didn’t speak French.
The following year he coached Nova Scotia to the AHL championship. Then two more in 5 years.
Something similar happened to me years ago. I was a volunteer tennis coach for Grassroots Tennis in New Haven, CT. Mostly inner city kids. One year they decided that they wanted coaches from “the neighborhood”. They told all the white coaches we weren’t needed. The program lasted one year after that. The program had been going on its eighth year when they did that.
I was listening to a TV program called ‘Sports Stars of Tomorrow’ about their QB. I bet they want his dad (who is the LB coach) as their coach. (His mom is the girl’s basketball at the coach). He - the QB - is going to TCU.
The war against white people is ultimately a war against competence.
My best friend lives in Southlake. His daughter is on the girls varsity swim team. Great program there in Carroll.
I'd be willing to bet he's received offers from half a dozen schools already. From what I heard, his team performed at a very high level in the classroom, too.
It's a well oiled machine, and it starts in second grade. Their middle school teams rarely lose a game, and stay very competitive during high school.
I never saw it before moving to North Texas 20 years ago, but there are communities where parents hold their children back a year for athletic reasons.
I never did it with my sons, but I can see the rationale for it. My boys are late bloomers, as was I. I didn't have my growth spurt until my sophomore year, and I saw the difference while competing at the JV level.
My youngest son is a freshman now, and has grown 6 inches over the past year, to just under 6 feet high. Playing against those Southlake kids who averaged several inches and 20-30 pounds more than their opponents, was a joke. My sons learned some valuable life lessons from that.
The Southlake community has bought into it, so be it. There's a lot of money there, and they know how to spread it around.
When their high priced minority coach and his entourage dont pan out, they realize in 2-5 years the mistake they made.

The story notes that dozens of his players showed up to support their coach. They called him a "good role model." Amazing that the kids know what the alleged adults on the school board cannot seem to accept.
If they fire him, I bet a significant number of kids either try to follow or find a way to move to another school. The school board has four short-sighted and bigoted people bound and determined to shoot themselves in the foot.
