why do i get this message from firefox when trying to donate? (The owner of secure.freerepublic.com has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website.

Yeah, unfortunately, Google has decided to deprecate industry standard SHA-1 encryption and Firefox has followed suit. Our certificate is still valid and our secure server continues to encrypt our donation transactions just as securely as it has for the last 20 years, but google et al throw up that erroneous warning error message anyway. We will eventually upgrade to SHA-2 but we have a couple issues to resolve first. Hopefully, John will get this done soon.

Meanwhile, you can click on the “ADVANCED” link on the bottom of the warning message and continue anyway if you wish, or if you’re on Windows 10, you can use their default browser, Edge, to make your donation and it works fine with no warning messages.
