The 50-year-old Tennessee man accused of kidnapping his 15-year-old former student was arrested in Northern California and the teenage girl was recovered safely after she was missing for more than a month, authorities said Thursday.
Tad Cummins, a former high school teacher in rural Tennessee, was nabbed in California after disappearing with Elizabeth Thomas on March 13, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said in a post on Twitter. The TBI said Thomas was recovered safely.
The two were discovered at daybreak Thursday morning after a caller had tipped authorities the night before that the pair was living "in a cabin in a remote area" of Cecilville, California, TBI spokesman Josh DeVine said at a press conference Thursday afternoon.

This photo tells me that Miss Thomas was a w2illing participant. Mainly because, if she really wanted to escape Cummins, all she had to do is turn 180 degrees and run like hell.
I hope they put that son-of-a-b*tch on paid administrative leave. And quick!
I didn’t realize ‘Cummins’ was his last name.
I don’t know about that. These pervs instill fear of death in their victims. Remember Elizabeth Smart?
Just my opinion.
Of coarse she was, but I will lay odds, she will have relational issues, trust issues, substance abuse issues as time goes on.
Pedophiles groom their victims for many months before making their move. They are manipulators, liars. They play on the young person's emotions, fears, anxieties.
This young lady is in for a lifetime of emotional distress.
This molester was quoted in another article saying he was glad it was over.
Not! It’s just beginning for him. Probably decades in jail.
And if he had sex with her, as many suspect, he will be serving life
in prison.
Glad it’s over? It’s just beginning for this molester.
she was 15...he was married.....a grown man does not take off with a girl who could be his grand daughter, I don’t care how much the girl agreed....
Let’s see if his little sexcapade will be deemed worth his 30 years in prison.
I wonder how they ended up in Cecilville. Definitely off the beaten path.
“Glad it’s over?”
He could have ended the ordeal at any time by turning himself in..
Searched but didn’t see this posted yet.

She’ll marry the guy while he’s in prison. It’ll be reverse LaTourneau.
I’m waiting for more details to come out before blaming the teacher 100%.
There are cases of young women who manipulate others and then play the victim.
The man is many things, certainly a criminal, probably an adulterer, legally a kidnapper, possibly a sex offender, but pedophile?
Pedophiles are sexually aroused by preadolescents, which she was not.
She is 15, which, not that long ago, was not uncommon as a marriageable age for young women. It is socially unacceptable across most of the country now, and illegal in many places, but it is not pedophilia.
Given what I have read so far (broken home, restraining order against an abusive mother), Miss Thomas was already in emotional distress. There is more going on here than we know, or frankly, we have a right to know, given her age.
I hope she gets any help she needs.
Yep.
It’s not all that strange either. This goes on much more than most realize.
Pedophile....yes. Just because this teen is 15 yrs old, don't take it as an indicator of some older guy wanting puppy love with a teen. This guy is 50yrs old, married with kids and a job as a teacher.
He would risk his career, marriage, kids and a 6x9 cell for the next 15 years to life....he couldn't control his sexual urges. The guy is messed up in the noggin.
When all the details are revealed, this guy is a sexual predator and has done it before.
Why pay him?
That is possible, but I can’t draw that conclusion from the available information. Up and until there is evidence that he has molested a preadolescent, I can’t call him a pedophile.
I agree that he is messed up in the noggin, but I can’t see into either his mind or his soul. What he did was bad enough. He abandoned his wife and family to run off with (or worse, kidnap and sexually enslave) a teenage girl. He should be judged on that action unless information on other crimes comes to light.
