My problem in my workplace is intergenerational. My younger coworkers do not understand many of my witticisms, as they've never heard of Animal House, Blazing Saddles, Sam Kinison, etc. I have to be careful, as I have learned how unread they are, despite the alphabet soup after their names.
As a test, for the past two weeks my desktop wallpaper has been a photo of the gate to Dachau, with its "Arbeit Macht Frei" in the center. Crickets.
On the 75th anniversary of the Doolittle Raid, the response I received was "I looked it up...very interesting." Like I said, I work with an incurious, unread bunch.
On my "road trips", I include history into my travels. After a trip to Memphis, and a stop at Sun Studio, my son corrected his drama teacher when she spoke of Elvis writing "Blue Suede Shoes." He pointed out to her that it was Carl Perkins that wrote, and first recorded the song. In fact, Carl was the first artist to have a song hit #1 on the Rock, R&B, and Country charts with the same song.
Of course, the teacher couldn't believe that she was wrong, until a search was performed.

Guess we beees gettin’ old huh? LOL! We went to Carmel calibfornia on Monday as part of a road trip and I told someone on the beach I hadn’t been there in 62 years and they looked at me real strange. As if Carmel didn’t exist 62 years ago? Then I said I went to a 2 room school house in Carmel Valley and they were really dumb struck. Two room school house? HUH? LOL! 1-6 in one room, 7-12 in the other one. Pretty easy to figure out. ;-) Historical context is now apparently over-rated.
