There is no way on Earth you can be sure that he would not still have had trouble. Some women love to tell lies about men. Some don’t seem to be able to know the difference between the truth and their own imaginings but people are far more likely to believe a lie from a woman in such a situation than to believe the truth if it comes from the accused man. Most women can NOT handle rejection and when rejected many of them are more than willing to spin a tale that is the opposite of the truth. I know that some men can’t handle rejection either but women are far worse than men in that respect.
