Societies cultures around the world have inscriptions drawings of dinosaurs, so they were clearly not living “millions” of years ago or the lava or asteroid theory. The word dinosaur did not exist til 1841, they were called dragons and clearly lived among ancient societies in an environment climate much different from modern day. The Bible mentions flying beasts, the leviathan, a behemoth.

That rock art is only a few thousand years old at most. Condors, eagles, and other large birds were common then as now.

Thunderbird was most likely based on one of those.
