To: PCPOET7; Yardstick

Eating disorders and cutting are still out there, but they’re not the attention-getters. Teenage life, especially on the Internet, is like a negative feedback loop/echo chamber in which the one with the biggest misery index is overwhelmed with attention, thus driving an arms race in destructive behaviors.

I think we are probably eventually going to look back at the advent of instant portable internet access and social media as being simply a disaster for society and culture, especially for younger girls. Maybe there will be some sort of backlash and turning away from it, but I have a hard time imagining that at least on any big scale.
