President Trump on Wednesday said that NATO is no longer obsolete a big change after Trump repeatedly called the alliance obsolete on the campaign trail.
(Excerpt) Read more at thehill.com ...
NATO is questionable while it has a muslim country as one of its members.
So did it go from obsolete to not obsolete in a month and a half? Or was Trump wrong when he called it obsolete to begin with?
Tanks in Poland?.. the 80s cold war restart.. it’s all just nuts. Syria is Iraq 2.0.. or may e Benghazi since a base with 1000 US troops was attacked last weekend. .. all the while trump saying we’re not going in to Syria in an interview.. what part of 1000 troops in Syria.. aren’t in Syria. Sadam, I mean assad used chemical weapons on His own iraqis.. I mean syrians.. meanwhile
We have never signed a peace treaty w N korea.. and they are Saber rattling
Its seriously nuts.
NATO? About as useful as the UN peacekeeping.
It has two, Turkey and Albania.
Is Ivanka talking to him again?
What's more disappointing is the misguided hand-wringing around here. It's absolutely ridiculous.
Did you honestly expect the United States to withdraw from NATO? That's just preposterous.
The President isn't on the campaign trail distributing red meat to enthusiastic crowds—he's now governing a diverse nation of people, which is part of a complex and diverse world.
What specifically do you expect the President to do viz-a-viz NATO, other than to try to update its mission to comport with 21st century priorities, so that it's no longer obsolete?
The President is doing an superb job at international diplomacy. Indeed, it's rapidly beginning to look as if foreign policy will become one of his strengths as a leader...
Bingo! You win the internet for the day.
How many times does this President have to prove to the doubters that he's at the top of his game?
I feel sorry for the malcontents who are nitpicking every single move that the President makes. I though we had the Democrats and Media (but I repeat myself) for that. Apparently, the NeverTrump crowd feels compelled to try to contribute their petty negativity as well. They don't even recognize winning when it's happening all around them...
So true. It getting absolutely pathetic what people are hand-wringing about. It's "concern troll" x 10. President Trump says NATO is "no longer obsolete", and that somehow adds up to:
"Its disturbing Trump just flip flops one position after another. The Deep state, the Swamp have won, he has joined them. Looks like we will have just another president with crony capitalism running amok."If that's not abject, unhinged, delusional hysteria, I don't know what is...
That’s what gets me. Their comments would be so welcome on du, with like minded dummies.
Really? Try this perspective . The future well being of this country will be determined by whether the globalists or the nationalists come to dominate. At their core the globalists favor one world/no borders free and open migrations. They emphasize that migrants regardless of “citizenship” have human and political rights wherever they may find themselves. They call it multiculturalism and currently dominate the EU and the Democratic Party. Nationalists have an inherent pride in their culture, heritage, history and their political and economic accomplishments. They do not seek endless foreign entanglements that do not result in actual rather than theoretical security and which mat force them into costly unnecessary wars.
Try to reflect carefully before you count yourself a defacto globalist. NATO like or not interwines America with EU globalists. This is not 1987. The world has changed.
“They don’t even recognize winning when it’s happening all around them...”
Ain’t that the truth...Trump has advanced the conservative agenda more in 90 days than Bush I and Bush II did in 12 years. The hand-wringers we’re infested with are spoiled little kids who whine like little girls because they didn’t get 100% of what they want - IMMEDIATELY.
You're absolutely correct. It's the epitome of shortsighted thinking, "fair weather" support, and a total lack of trust.
Think about it. If these people refuse to trust this President, and the superb team he's put around himself—such as Secretary of Defense Mattis, for example—who will they ever be able to trust?
The answer is "nobody", and that's a recipe for stagnation and disaster. Without trust, nothing will ever be accomplished—not draining the swamp or anything else.
The President practices one iota of foreign policy which differs from their preconceived, simplistic view of "the way things oughta be" and they proceed to sh!t all over him.
The President doesn't need such "supporters". I've never seen such irrational, counterproductive behavior—from so-called conservatives—in my life.
Fortunately, like Reagan, President Trump will not permit such "nattering nabobs of negativism" to make the perfect be the enemy of the good. Such elements can wallow in their own continuous discontent for 4 years, if they like, and then vote against President Trump in 2020—if they're so dissatisfied with what he has accomplished.
This is probably our last chance to avoid an all-out civil war in this country, and those who cling to their own rigid dogma over pragmatic, tangible improvement are apparently willing to squander everything on the altar of their narrow concept of propriety.
It's tragic that people have become so jaded and contrarian that they've rendered themselves irrelevant to the arduous process of making America great again. It's that same old selfish impulse that seeks instant gratification— without any realization that a modicum of flexibility must accompany it.
That's just incoherently comparing apples and oranges...
Try to reflect carefully before you count yourself a defacto globalist. NATO like or not interwines America with EU globalists. This is not 1987. The world has changed.
Has it really? A tin pot dictator is busy committing mass murder with poison gas. Meanwhile, communist/fascist Russia is busy running top cover for them at the UN. Is it 1987? Or 2017? We’ve seen this movie before, FRiend.
Sorry to rain on your isolationist day dream but Syria shows that NATO is needed more than ever.
You guys were mentioned in post #35 but not pinged.
(Some nubies have no respect for FR traditions)
LOL. Call me a neocon. Just don’t call me late for dinner. FRegards.
Thats what gets me. Their comments would be so welcome on du, with like minded dummies.
What’s most hilarious to me is how they parrot the 1970’s leftist Pro-USSR talking points. US is causing WW3, etc., etc. Birds of a feather, IMO. LOL.
“I never saw us pulling out, maybe they will help foot the bill in Europe”
That was one issue. The other was going after terrorism. It looks like NATO is going to do both.
I couldn’t call you late for dinner because dinner is always late here. ;-)
Perhaps it was not readily apparent, but perhaps someone will outline just what NATO as a military or political alliance has done to deal with Syria or the instability caused by the jihadist wars and atrocities. Do you really believe that France, who exports 1/4 of its wheat output to Egypt (paid by the Saudis), have 30% of their national debt and much of their prime real estate owned by the Saudis and the Gulf states have common interests with the US in the Mideast. See any long term effective involvement from any NATO states? But cut to the chase. The primordial fear of the globalists is that a Russia, recovering from almost ninety years of soul crushing communism, that respects its own cultural heritage and culture, will have far more in common with an equally nationalistic America than it has differences. Globalism is not compatible with nationalism or an America that really values its heritage, history, political, social and economic accomplishments.
