Glad Estes won, but WHY was this such a close election in a deep red state like Kansas?? And why is Gov. Brownback (supposedly) so unpopular?

Lousy candidate on GOP and race was nationalized by Dems. But still won by almost 10 points.

They’re trying to recreate Tea Party wave. But candidates like Christie and Scott Brown actually won in deep blue states - and statewide no less. They didn’t lose by 10 points and claim victory.

Ron Estes is a mostly quiet, shy kind of guy.

I would never have thought of nor described Mike Pompeo as a dynamic charmer but compared to the much more polished Pompeo, Ron Estes is a straight forward accountant-type.

The dims pumped lots of cash into this race from their national coffers and pumped up another sleeper into a country and western "good ole boy" to shuck and jive the folks.

Fortunately, a strong "get out the vote" run by Kansans For Life and lots of other grass roots folks from the locals, fought back against the big money abortion lobby, the gun control lobby, the gay lobby and all of the other leftist groups around the country, who ran a phony leftist Thompson against a genuine conservative, Ron Estes.

If leftists were at all honest about their intentions, another one could never get elected again in KS but our so-called GOP "moderates" will run stealth candidates in Primaries to defeat a conservative, then they support the real hard leftist in the race.

KS is Red but elections are really between a true conservative the Democrat and the RINO Party! A tough slog!!!

It was a special election with low turnout. About 120,000 votes were cast yesterday. Last November it was closer to 280,000.

And why is Gov. Brownback (supposedly) so unpopular?

No supposedly to it; Brownback's approval is in the toilet. Six years ago he passed deep tax cuts with the usual promise that it would create thousands of jobs and generate higher revenues. Well it didn't. Kansas has had large deficits ever since and the cuts have gotten deeper and deeper into popular programs like education, transportation, and the like.

Brownback did not want to fund education to the absurd levels demorepubs wanted. They got the courts to do their bidding, and so more dollars for education.

Brownback vetoed a plan by the demorepubs to increase taxes so he is not popular with most in state government, but particularly the left leaning rhinos.

I think he has done a great job. His in state approval numbers are in the tank—but good on him for standing tall.
