Republicans Suddenly Sweating Election in Deep-Red Kansas District
The Hill ^ | 44/07/17 | MAX GREENWOOD

Posted on 04/08/2017 11:05:58 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Vice President Pence is stepping into Kansas's special House election, recording a robocall urging Republican voters to cast their ballots for the party's congressional nominee on Tuesday, the Washington Examiner reported on Friday.

The robocall comes amid shaky support for Kansas State Treasurer Ron Estes, who is running against Democrat James Thompson to fill the House seat vacated by Mike Pompeo, who is now President Trump's CIA director.

President Trump won Kansas's 4th District by almost 30 points in November. But Democrats in the district have been energized by the president's low-approval ratings and controversies in his first months in office, leaving Republicans sweating over whether they will be able to hold the seat.

"Ron's run a horrible campaign," a Kansas Republican operative told the Examiner. "Hasn't raised much money, his ads are abysmal — no energy. It's a low turnout special and weird things happen."

Pence isn't the only high-profile Republican to step in to try to aid Estes. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is expected to make an appearance in Kansas' 4th District on Monday, according to the Kansas City Star.

Another special House race in Georgia's 6th District also has Republicans scrambling for a win. Democrat Jon Ossoff has gained a high-profile in the district and is leading Republican candidates in polls to fill the House seat vacated by Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price.

“Hang on, more counter-evidential insults, nathan. These boards are getting ugly with fact-free viciousness again”

You poor little snowflake never-trumper. You must be having a terrible year. :)

But I hope you will have a nice rest of the day anyway.

I just live outside this district in Kansas and given their past voting history, I just cannot see the dems taking this one.

The only way I see it could happen is through local and national media manipulation and propaganda much like what this article is attempting to do.

I’m not saying it is impossible because media manipulation has worked here before as it got us the liberal loon Sebelius as governor, twice. I just hope more Americans, as well as Kansans in this case, are no longer fooled by their manipulations and propaganda.

Exactly it is! We need to stop with all the in-fighting and learn who the real enemy is.

As the Trump administration keeps some promises but betrays others, your tactics are confusing fewer and fewer conservatives. I suggest you follow my example and praise Trump when he commits an act of conservatism and oppose him when he reverts to the leftist tendencies of his daughter and son-in-law

This is what I would appreciate more of on FR. That people can praise DT actions when he acts conservatively without being labeled a Trump-bot, but also be able to criticize actions we disagree with when they are not conservative without being labeled a Never Trumper. We need to be thoughtful and evaluate actions, not words, and look at all the actions taken together. I do not appreciate the atmosphere lately that any criticism of Donald Trump immediately means you are a disloyal traitor. We should not be engaging in a cult of personality like the Democrats did for Obama or Hillary.

I've seen plenty of criticism of President Trump here without people calling them NeverTrumpers. Realistically, President Trump isn't going to do everything we like. We can only hope a large majority of what he does is wins for conservatism. So far, so good. Keep in mind though, he has a huge roadblock of the media, the whole government establishment, and their cronies trying to keep him from getting the American people's will done.

What you are seeing playing out on this thread is a bad case of Soreloserman. A certain poster on here just can't get over the fact that his candidate lost and uses any negativity, whether true or not, to use against Trump.

My beef with some posters here is those that take our media's words as gospel. They have the "well they said it or printed it so it must be true" mentality. It doesn't matter that the media has lied over and over again to the American people, they will continue to use the same lying, deceiving, propagandizing, media to make their points. It's crazy how some still do that here.

Thanks for the lengthy reply. I took Trump at his word from the beginning that he would try to make conservative choices in office. He also has some conservative tendencies (America first, tax cuts) along with some liberal tendencies . It will turn out that some of his choices will not be conservative, but as long as the important ones are (e.g. Supreme picks) I will be satisfied that I got what I paid for with my donation.

As for the back and forth in these threads, there are valid concerns about divide and conquer tactics by enemies of conservatism. There are people who will accuse anyone (like yourself) of being part of an effort to divide Trump from his base. What those folks should consider is that the media has been trying to divide Trump from his base since he came down the escalator. It hasn't worked.

Some accusations regarding divide and conquer are themselves divide and conquer. But I am willing to listen to anyone and I have a poor memory and try not to carry arguments from thread to thread. However your screen name is notable mainly because of the avatar. So I see it and might have something of a knee jerk reaction but not too often. Also there's utterly no reason for me to pile on with "I had the same thought" as another poster.

The bottom line is while you have a conservative view on just about every issue, Trump is a patchwork conservative. Also Trump is a less perfect human being than average. Has made his share of mistakes and will continue to do so. But he won based mainly on his ability to win, a tautology but a strong tautology. He's what we got for 8 years and I for one will enjoy the ride.

For the zillionth time

TRUMP IS NOT A CONSERVATIVE. He’s a populist and you should get down on your knees and thank God Almighty that he is, because a conservative could not have beaten Hillary.

He didn’t promise to staff up with only conservatives. Frankly, you don’t want him to. That’s an echo chamber.

As of now, he’s on thin ice derived ENTIRELY from the failure of the Obamacare vote or non vote. Don’t sit around thinking you have have a majority. Hillary got more votes. What Trump has is Wisconson (barely), Michigan (barely) and Pennsylvania (barely). He doesn’t keep them with rightward drift. He keeps them by doing what he promised.

Build the Wall. Repeal and Replace.

He has failed one of those so far (well, both of those so far). They better happen or those 3 states don’t vote for him again.

When folks here start thinking about abortion and gay rights and whatever claptrap, they need to reread those two cornerstones of the campaign.

Build the Wall. Repeal and Replace. Everything else is so much distraction for the Rust Belt.

TRUMP IS NOT A CONSERVATIVE

Trump has lots of conservative tendencies, mainly being pro-capitalism, but also pro-federalism.

I'm not sitting around taking anything for granted, I am fully aware that Cruz would not have beaten Hillary.
