Just finished reading a book on the Guadalcanal campaign in WWII...the US continually bombed Jap airfields around Rabaul with little success..they were back in 8 hours. During the Iraqi war, the British flew their Tornadoes fast and low to drop anti-runway ordinance, but they paid a terrible price. I believe they lost more aircraft and airmen than any other nation.

BTW..I read yesterday that the cost of the version of Tomahawk that was used is down to $250,000. They probably couldn’t wait to use them so they could get the latest and greatest!!

It seems people keep throwing around a rather high ball number unit cost (1.4million). They may have gotten it from Wiki. I don't know.

Here is the US Navy reference:

TOMAHAWK CRUISE MISSILE (Unit Cost: Approximately $569,000).

If it is down to a quarter million, the better.

I recall a substitute teacher back in the early 70’s talking about Vietnam. We would bomb the Ho Chi Min trail and that night they would have the women and children filling in the holes by hand and it would be ready the next morning.

Some Freeper posted a you-tube on “fastest workers” a few days ago - probably something like that!

RE: Old Tomahawks:

At a certain point, if unused, you junk ‘em, or sell ‘em el-cheapo to some $$ poor allies, anyway, right?
