Oh I wish the world was perfect too

You analogy does not wash. Japan had been capturing islands in the Pacific and were killing US service men before Pearl was attacked

No, I really am seeking enlightenment, Professor, especially on this narrow issue. I’d love to here a good rationale why we cannot adopt a more isolationist approach? I mean we have a military presence in over 100 countries across the globe. Do you really mean to say that we can’t dial this back? Additionally, the sovereign American people can legislatively set a legal immigration policy that -assuming it’s enforced - can greatly restrict those who do not culturally assimilate well with us, right?

Sorry, the neobolshevik demographic that dreams of a diminished United States and a world run by the likes of Death to America Iran and fascist Russia is thankfully minuscule. POTUS is going to asert US influence and day dreaming isolationists are going to have to deal with it.

__________________________________________________________

You are delusional if you think that anti-war/conflict movement is small in the U.S. The general public is sick to death of all intervention and wars our leaders have gotten us into over the last (roughly) 20 years. Trumps pre-election rhetoric WAS isolationist. Are you seriously blind to that? If you want to see Trump get canned in 2020, then hope and pray he continues down this route. The same people on the political Left (as well as the neo-Cons on the right) who are praising him for this airstrike will abandon The Donald at first opportunity. He’ll never have their support. Again, Trump was NOT elected by national security hawks....he’d better remember that.

I opposed 0bama because he was a lying Marxist. I opposed him before he ever set foot in office. If you think this airstrike was unConstitutional then you’re simply ignorant of history and the law.

Friend, I’m deathly ill, and not much in fighting form right now. Forgive me if I post this one reply, then leave the conversation to others.

You and others on the thread appear to be jumping to the conclusion that I favor foreign adventurism, nation building, and some sort of ‘open door’ policy, which I don’t. I’ve merely tried to point out that isolationism is an extreme also, and just as fraught with pifalls as its opposite in foreign policy.

Have a good weekend.

I see very little downside to Trump’s missile strike. Under Obama, Russia moved into the ME. The US lost all credibility, to the point where Iran felt that capturing US Navy Sailors and then displaying them for all to see would cost them nothing. And it did cost them nothing. LS do you think Iran will do this now? The question is how will Iran use its proxy armies, i.e. Hezbollah now rearmed with the $150 billion that Obama released to them. But now Iran has to calculate what Trump’s meaningful response will be.

I have no loyalty to any individual, my loyalty lies with the Republic. I cheer and praise Trump for many of his domestic initiatives but I oppose him, or anyone, who picks up and continues a disastrous foreign policy started by Bush II and continued by Obama.

Picture this scenario, you are having a violent argument with someone on a sidewalk who threatened you (North Korea). Would you try to make a point to that person by shooting another person who was standing there watching that argument (Syria)?

I would be much less troubled if he had decided to attack North Korea, who has means to hurt us (nukes) and has threatened to do so. That is a strong case for the use of the War Powers Act, again Syria was not.

We should back Assad until the Islamic radicals are all eliminated in Syria and Iraq, then let’s talk about next steps. Now I am hearing sabre rattling by Tillerson against Russia. Russia was our ideological enemy when they were Communist, now they are not. They are a major nuclear power that can punch way above their weight is backed into a corner, why are we trying to pick a fight with them? This is insanity!

I am leary of the Cult of Personality and troubled that so many would line up and reflexively back their Strong Man (Trump). Cheer him when he’s right, tell him when he’s wrong. He was wrong (I hope not disastrously so).

Same here. I support what he did because it was exactly the right thing to do. Your blather about "Bush policies" is delusional.

Bush covered for, and spirited the real authors of 9/11 out of the country, the Saudis. Then Bush destabilized the entire Middle East by ousting a true enemy of Iran and Saudi Arabia, Saddam Hussein in Iraq.

The Middle East has been in flames for years because of Bush doing the bidding of the Saudis.

Tell the dead I’m delusional.
