Russia reacted to U.S. military strikes on its ally Syria Friday by cutting a hotline intended to prevent midair incidents, a response that demonstrates Moscow's readiness to defy Washington and could even put the two nuclear superpowers on a course toward military confrontation.
President Vladimir Putin signaled he was ready to risk a clash with the U.S. and abandon hopes for mending ties with the U.S. under President Donald Trump, rather than accept the humiliation of standing by while his ally is bombed.

I hope you’re right. Depends on how pragmatic the Russians are. Both countries could survive a conventional war, but not a nuclear one.
Russia has bee drilling for the nuclear scenario. We should have been, too, but with our luck, it would be: “Please go to the basement so you can cook to death when the bomb goes off.”
AN ally that must be kept at arm’s length, I really don’t understand all this misplaced trust in Putin.
There is all kinds of statesmanship, good or bad, playing out behind the scenes. People are just losing their minds and aren’t even waiting for the smoke to clear before drawing conclusions.
I like my nuclear winter as anyone, but I am also not for “ducking and covering” upon a nuclear blast. Time to go out in full glory. Return to the Atoms.
