Although there may be a considerable population in Syria (Kurd, Sunni, Shiite) who want nothing to do with the mayhem and want peace, we have to realize that there is nothing to be gained by getting involved in that country.

Assad’s only barely redeeming point is that he’s promised to protect Christians in that nation. Other than that, he’s basically turned the nation into a satellite of Hezbollah, Iran and Russia. I get the feeling that he’s become a puppet for these groups.

On the other side, we have the ISIS/Al-Qaeda faction. There’s nothing whatsoever redeeming about them either. Their desire to create a head-chopping monument-destroying pan-Arab caliphate is most alarming.

Even among the more secular groups like the Free Syrian Army, their numbers and firepower are not substantial enough to make it worth backing them. In fact, they appear to have underperformed.

The best thing that can happen (for both us and israel) is that a military stalemate continues to grind on and on.
