THE ANTIC behavior of Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), who was slipped classified surveillance by senior aides to President Trump, rushed to hold a news conference about it and then scurried back to the White House to brief Mr. Trump, was clumsy and clownish but it may have accomplished its main purpose. Mr. Nunes managed to derail his own House Intelligence Committees investigation into the far more serious matter of Russias interference in the presidential election, and to distract attention from the emergence of troubling new evidence.
As the congressmans bizarre circuit was chewed over in Washington, it emerged that Jared Kushner, the presidents aide and son-in-law, had met with an executive from a Russian bank that is on the U.S. sanctions list; former national security adviser Michael Flynn sought immunity in exchange for his testimony on his Russian ties; and experts told the Senate Intelligence Committee that Russian hacking and propaganda efforts are continuing, and have recently been directed at House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).
Mark R. Warner (Va.), ranking Democrat on the Senate committee, offered an appeal to common sense: The public, he said, must not lose sight of what the investigation is about: An outside foreign adversary effectively sought to hijack our most critical democratic process, the election for president in order to favor one candidate over another. Unfortunately, Mr. Trump and willing accomplices such as Mr. Nunes have been all too effective in clouding this shocking reality and impeding effective investigation of it.

As was suggested in some other news source, Trump should be able to clear all of this up with a few phone calls but hasn’t. The question is “Why not?” In any event, it is a distraction and one that’s not really distracting his enemies all that much, as has also been suggested. That he’s taking no steps to end it all doesn’t bode well and may be emboldening his enemies. I am also not pleased that he’s publically trying to spank the Freedom Caucus.
Start with the title.
Honestly, I used to look at Google news everyday. I stopped because of the vitriol streaming from almost every article about Trump.
At some point, I think most people will just tune out..
A few phone calls to whom, and about what, exactly?
Then and now.
Funny, here I thought he was the president - someone who had some connections with the agencies and cabinet heads who could do something about all of this (e.g, exposure, subpoena, warrants, etc.). Maybe not.
The WaPo received leaks that were more than once or twice shown to be false and they still printed them and continue to do so.
The narrative that Nunes *briefed* the POTUS is false. According to multiple timelines I have seen, Trump knew all this and crafted multiple stings to expose some of the leakers/lies.
It is more likely Nunes spoke to POTUS to confirm that he, Nunes, now also knew what POTUS already knew. Nunes obtained this information legally & first hand, without Trump telling him. Nunes had to have the document numbers before receiving the documents. Those were disseminated by zer0’s crew before the inauguration & had to come to Nunes either from white hats inside IC or complicit members of Congress.
Tangled webs.
How many of the FC are NeverTrumpers?
“A few phone calls”? What news sources dismiss this sedition and Trump’s uncovering of it in this manner? Could you elucidate who he should call, what he should say and how this would clear up anything?
“Not distracting his enemies”? Notice the sound of crickets from the usual sources, all of them now criticizing process or pounding tables? Babbling looping rants is not evidence of “No distraction”. It is the sound of desperation.
I’m sure you will let us know when Trump achieves the *news sources’* level of brilliance.

“After the major leaks began in September of 2016, General Flynn, Trump, Pence, James Comey, and James Clapper hatched a plan to identify the leakers by giving them false information.”

He managed to evade the surveillance, craft a plan precisely with those he needed without alerting the opposition and stop one or more sources of leaks.
That’s what you think he should have done, right? Is it presidential enough?
Trump takes teddy bear away from media whining ensues for four years.
Depends on you meaning of “and” or “the.”
How about an ongoing thread listing each and every member of Congress who should order their packing boxes early? They can get on the Trump and We The People train or go bye bye back to the sewer they crawled out of.
Remember Dubya and the way he dragged out the whole question whether he ever took cocaine? Same thing. It’s a decoy to drive them nuts. True, they already are nuts, but they have to be making angry chimp noises to scare people away nuts. Remember the Wellstone memorial? That kind of nuts. It’s working.
So Trump can’t get classified info?
I guess the Washington Post can revoke the President’s security clearance.
Not a shovel but a back hoe of bs.
They were chanting a few weeks ago that Trump can declassify anything he wants to, so why not make his proof of surveillance public. Now they’re chanting, how dare he release classified information to Nunes. The whole Russia thing is a crock, as the article itself admits. Having a sitting President pull strings to surveil a candidate and then his designated successor, and release info to the press, now that’s serious. Nixon had to step down for less.
Most of what I remember about GWB is that he turned out to be a really crappy POTUS, perhaps one of the worst, who got a lot of precious Americans killed, the mideast in even greater turmoil, Obama in office and a Trump detractor. He's not a good example of smart or clever.
So, the comPost claims the Russians are now Hacking Ryans Privates.
You have to take every POTUS as a mixed bag. Whatever you want to say about some aspects of his administration, the way he baited the Dems was plain brilliant. They kept going psychotic in front of cameras, and it was called “Bush Derangement Syndrome”. Trump disagreed with him about the Gulf War, but he has clearly learned some lessons from him about deranging the Dems. The WaPo article is only the latest example.
