1) Surveillance targeting the Trump team during the Obama administration began months ago, even before the president had become the GOP nominee in July.

3) The spying was done purely “for political purposes” that “have nothing to do with national security and everything to do with hurting and embarrassing Trump and his team.”

At this point, the Dems didn't know or probably didn't think Trump would be the nominee. And this was done "for political purposes."

Wouldn't it seem reasonable that other or all the Republican candidates were spied on? Wouldn't they want to embarrass any candidate & spy on all or many of the candidates to gather this information? In July Trump was a "joke" candidate, so wouldn't it make sense that they spied on Rubio, Bush... and the other "likely" candidates?

Good point you raised. If they didn’t know for sure who the nominee would be, why wouldn’t they spy on ALL of them?
