Do you remember a machine called the “Foresitzer”? It was used to make piano rolls before there were recording devices to get the nuances of the really great pianists of yesteryear.

I have been trying to look it up on the Internet without success.

It really existed. Look up “Vorsitzer.” I once had a disk of piano pieces played by the giants of the early 20th Century on a Vorzitzer, including Gabrilowicz, Padereski, Careno and Mahler.
