In a column published Thursday night, Krauthammer said the GOP, having failed to "repeal and replace" Obamacare, could make the attempt again in the coming months, but said people may reject the attempt because they've been conditioned to see healthcare as an entitlement.
"A broad national consensus is developing that health care is indeed a right," he wrote. "This is historically new. And it carries immense implications for the future. It suggests that we may be heading inexorably to a government-run, single-payer system. It's what Barack Obama once admitted he would have preferred but didn't think the country was ready for. It may be ready now."

Krauthammer is not advocating single payer. Mearly stating that much of the country will be OK with govt. health care. He is right. I would guess 30-40% would approve. If the Republicans screw things up the number will go higher.
YES!!!! Just what we need!!!!
Doctors that are as concerned about you as the DMV, as fast as the US Post Office, and as benevolent as the IRS!!!!
Add in, also, that they will protect your medical records as good as the CIA and NSA, and it’s just a big bouquet of flowers!!!!
Trump will not propose it.
But he will sign it when it hits his desk.
And that will happen before the 2020 election.
The vast majority of American people want government run health care as long as you don’t call it that. They live in a dreamworld where you can have your cake and east it too.
As long as he stays in his Beltway Bubble, he’s right.
VA-style care for everyone!
The desire to control and “perfect” others continues to grow.
Compete diet control will be the next big goal after government-controlled healthcare.
He is correct in that this is how many Americans now see health care, as a basic right. Many conservatives believe it too, in varying degrees. So, if we as the GOP do ever kill the snake that is ObamaCare, we need to BE READY TO RESPOND to panicked questions about the uninsured. What about the uninsured? I presume Medicare and Medicaid will continue taking care of this segment of the population.
The GOP needs to have their game together, and RESPOND AS ONE GOP VOICE on these questions we know will be coming. The mistake will be to ignore all the faux shock and rhetoric coming from the left or from nervous RINOs. This is often where our ideas fall apart before implementation, we don’t always fully explain. We need to be ready to have live debates with the libs in order to educate the American people. In order to say calm down. EXPLAIN how killing ObamaCare will making employers more likely to pay for full time workers.
Krauthammer should never be referred to as ‘conservative’ again. He’s Juan Williams in white face, in a wheelchair.
Communism aka “socialized medicine” was always the objective.
I don’t disagree with the basic premise. The foot in the door was Medicare & Medicaid. The Dems will keep reminding people of those programs’ existence as they push harder for (more) socialized medicine.
I see you actually read the opinion piece referenced.
Dr. K has sometimes written or said some very intelligent things sometimes in the past. This sure ain’t one of them, tho.
Dear Dr. K.... just look at how “well” the Fed Govt runs health care NOW (the V.A.,.where people are dying waiting for needed treatments or procedures ... cures that would be available to them Immediately when needed in the normal You-Choose-For-Yourself “free market” medical care system.)
Go away Krauthammer.
This it the US of A. We don’t need your screed and we certainly don’t need the government dictating our healthcare needs.
As long as they have unlimited debt, in a completely unbacked, fiat currency, the progressives and nanny-state globalists will win every time.
Sums it up rather well.
Patriots are reminded of the following. Regardless what lawless Obamas state sovereignty-ignoring Supreme Court justices wanted everybody to think about Obamacare, it remains that the states have never expressly constitutonally delegated to the corrupt feds the specific power to regulate, tax and spend in the name of INTRAstate healthcare.
This is evidenced by the following excerpts from the writings of Thomas Jefferson and previous generations of state sovereignty-respecting justices.
"Our citizens have wisely formed themselves into one nation as to others and several States as among themselves. To the united nation belong our external and mutual relations; to each State, severally, the care of our persons [emphasis added], our property, our reputation and religious freedom. Thomas Jefferson: To Rhode Island Assembly, 1801.
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
"State inspection laws, health laws, and laws for regulating the internal commerce of a State, and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c. are not within the power granted to Congress [emphases added]." -Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added]. United States v. Butler, 1936.
So with all due respect to Dr. Krauthammer, instead of politicking for a federal healthcare program outside the famework of the Constitution like lawless Obama did, he needs to do the following.
Krauthammer needs to work with Pres. Trump, Congress and the states to propose a Trump / Krauthammer healthcare amendment to the Constitution to the states. And if the states choose to ratify the Trump / Krauthhammer amendment then Trump and Krauthhammer will be heros and Congress will actually have the constitutonal authority that has always needed in order to regulate, tax and spend in the name of INTRAstate healthcare.
Here we go with a called Government Run Single-Payor system. The thing is it would not be run by the government, it would be run by private insurance companies just like Medicare is.
So it would be just another sleazy deal where everyone makes out except the people who really have to use the system.
Sorry folks, he is right. obamacare is broken. It was never meant to succeed. The GOPe replacement is just another shit sandwich built to fail. The GOP showed there hand and have no intent of repealing O care, single payer is the only thing left. No worries, it wont be much different then we have now. Half the country will pay $00.00 and the other half will pay though the nose.
And just does Mr. Krauthammer go for his world class medical care with his medical issues? Cuba? North Korea? UK?
When these jerks say “THE US” he means, “everyone else but me and those who isolate themselves from progressivism” is ready.
You can have free healthcare for all, and you can have open borders, but you can’t have both.
