"Unlawful" and "extreme" is how West Michigan Rep. Justin Amash described President Donald Trump's executive order to ban refugees and citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries.
"It's not lawful to ban immigrants on the basis of nationality," Amash said in the statement.
Trump's order blocks citizens from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia and Libya from entering the country for at least 90 days. It also bans refugees from anywhere in the world for 120 days -- and from Syria indefinitely.
"Ultimately, the executive order appears to be more about politics than safety," Amash said. "If the concern is radicalism and terrorism, then what about Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and others?"
Unlike many Republicans who endorsed Trump when he secured the GOP nomination, Amash never formally gave the candidate his support. He said he would neither vote for Trump nor Hillary Clinton, and would remain critical of Trump's decisions in office.

I agree that I supported Trump, voted for him, support him still, but I won’t be worshipping him like we did Bush around here. He can and will make mistakes and we need to hold him accountable.
After the republicans leaked the "locker-room" tape on Trump:
The FC are frauds because the whole thing is a con game. The FC votes for a Speaker that will not let them enact any of the legislation they believe in. And they know this. So they are frauds. In return, the leadership allows them to run around and say conservative things to keep the base engaged and to keep true believers like you feeling that the Republicans in Congress are working on your behalf when they are not. So at the end of the day nothing gets done but everyone says they tried to do something and everyone stays in power. See how this works?
As for Obamacare, I don’t support it as a mandate or as currenly constituted, but it does help a lot of people. Case in point, when I got downsized, my COBRA was $1400 a month, on the exchange it was $400. So we can have arguments about whether the government should be involved in healthcare or whether or not Obamacare works, but the reality is millions of people are benefiting from this. Trump has always said that he was not going to kick people off the plan and into the streets. He’s never lied about this. He said it from the first debate so you can be angry at him or you can cheerlead for the freedom caucus but Trump has been the one politician who has actually been upfront about what he wants to do and follow through on it.
We seem to be approaching a hard divide.
FWIW, I’m going Right.
>> As for Obamacare, I dont support it as a mandate or as currenly constituted, but it does help a lot of people.
And there you are — the socialist.
Freedom for me, please.
I realize that Congress works on compromise, but it’s so dirty we are at an unrealistic disadvantage.
You are out of line. I’ve seen your post over the last few months and you change with the wind. You need to work on that.
“Nope, just Ryancare and continuing Obamas illegal DACA program. It has no basis in law and was dreamed up by Obama and Trump said he would end it and hasnt. It does not become legal just because Trump continues it.”
It sounds to me like you’re close to joining the impeachment crowd. You will make Nancy and Chuck proud.
Are you for real?
camel breather
What is Amash yammering about now? Good grief.
Did anyone ever tell this so-called “freedom” caucus dude that the seven countries chosen for the ban were actually chosen by Obama?
Those countries were chosen because the so-called refugees coming from there cannot be vetted. Comey himself said so last year.
Once Gorsuch is seated as a Supreme Court Justice, I hope Trump appeals the blatant interference of these pissant lower court “judges.”
You are sh!tting me !!
Is the HFC full of nonsensical positions and people, like this idiotic and dangerous stuff??
Well, this is quite a stupid position to take, but just remember, if it weren’t for the freedom caucus, we’d’ve made the Republicans responsible for Obamacare.
Don’t be a moron. You can attempt to have an informed discussion with those of us on here who have a different viewpoint than you, but you probably won’t get very far. I’m sure you support VA healthcare reforms which would be support of complete socialized medicine. If you are 65, or when you become 65, I’m sure you want your Medicare benefits. More socialized healthcare. I also bet that you would like your Social Security. More socilaized benefits.
Or, since you are such a conservative free market purist, you can skip SocSec and rely on your pension and 401K exclusively. Or you can skip Medicare and just buy your own insurance plan at 65, or we can tell veterans they need to purchase their own insurance, just to keep everything free market. Do me a favor, don’t engage me, it’s not a fair fight.
***And there you are the socialist***
A bought and paid for Socialist at that.
****If you are 65, or when you become 65, Im sure you want your Medicare benefits. More socialized healthcare. I also bet that you would like your Social Security****
Just give me back what I *PAID* into it with interest and I’ll be fine.
What do you think Amash is? He’s not Muslim; he’s Greek Orthodox from Syria. Maybe he doesn’t like what he perceives as Trump’s equation of Syrian = Muslim? If that’s his perception, he’s wrong, and he should have discussed matters before blurting out something so stupid. But looks like FR can have its share of stupid people, too.
You don’t understand this thread.
Has nothing to do with the travel ban.
It’s another cheap and dishonest HFC slam by a Trump sycophant about his Rinocare betrayal and the outrageous attack on conservatives he spewed this morning on twitter.
