For very practical reasons, the Pences are protecting themselves, together or alone, from the scandal mongering press as well as political intrigue. The Pence marriage and togetherness is genuine aside from practical considerations. The one scene I remember from the Trump inaugural balls was of the Pence family dancing along with others on the stage. Mike Pence and his wife were so proud of their family, and the whole demeanor of Mike Pence could be described as almost bursting with love and pride for his children and wife. He was totally oblivious to the other personalities around him. This atmosphere that the Pences carry with them takes years to develop. They have genuine love for each other and family. God bless them all.
I agree; I think they are committed religious people.
FWIW, liberals should be terrified of a Pence presidency (if something should happen to Trump); he was the only social/cultural candidate in the race. There is much to like about Trump, but for example he made it clear he wasn’t concerned with the “gay marriage” issue. That lukewarm attitude probably helped elect him (social liberals in general didn’t fear him, though splinter groups did), but it left the “religious right” with no horse in this race - the best they could hope for was Hillary’s defeat to prevent things from getting worse (in other words, little hope that anything would get better).
We’ll see what the Supreme Court battle(s) bring...
