They probably wanted to catch up with you and your family, since she has been gone a long time. But I suppose you had to endure a lot of gossip. ;)

No gossip, I was eating with the gossipers. Years ago, I had a successful project with an electrical utility company. Their technicians wanted to buy me a beer. So they invited me to a local titty bar, no big deal. Some time later, their supervisor apologized to me. For what? He saw my company car (vanity plates) in the lot one late afternoon. He found out later that it was his guys who had invited me to that place. I didn't think anything of it, but some people do.

My wife is in Thailand long-term. But after 39 years of marriage, one gets used to the ebb and flow of life.
