President Trump's funding request for a border wall will likely be put on hold, Senate Republican leaders signaled Tuesday.
Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, announced at a leadership press conference that Trump's supplemental funding request will wait until later in the year.
He said the Senate and House leadership are very close to negotiating a bill to fund government for the rest of 2017.
Adding a supplemental spending bill requested by Trump to pay for military activities and a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border would complicate the talks and should be dealt with at a later date, Blunt added. "We have the FY17 defense bill," Blunt said, noting it is the top priority of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and could be used as a vehicle to pass bills funding other federal departments.
"All of the committees, the leaderships of the House and Senate, are working together to try to finalize the rest of the FY17 bill," he added. "My guess is that comes together better without the supplemental."

The Cheap Labor Express strikes back.
Screw them.
The only invasion we’re enduring is the one from Mexico.
The rest of the “defense” budget is pointless if a foreign nation can simply walk in and take over.
What are the nukes for - defending Greater Mexico?
We really need to clean out the Senate.
I’ve really had enough of the goddamned GOP.
Yup. That’s what we’re seeing here bright as day. Every damned one of them needs to go.
They are doing all they can to sandbag Trump.
Truth is we know what they are up to.
I’ll chip in some $$$ for the wall. If all of us MAGA AMERICANS do the same, it will be a done deal.
Call Blunt. He needs to hear from as many people as possible that this type of dismissive patronizing from elected republicans ended on November 8th, 2016.

yanking funds from sanctuary cities pays for the wall.
He should tell Mathis & the fossils at the Pentagon that when they find the. $10 TRILLION missing from the Defense Dept. over the last 10 years, he will think about giving them more money than last year. How did the Defense Dept. lose what amounts to half our national debt during the Obama reign of error???
Nailed it.
It’s worse than you think.
Voted for Gang of Amnesty:
Alexander, Corker, Flake, Graham, Hatch, Heller, Hoeven, McCain, Murkowsky and Rubio.
Would have but their votes weren’t needed:
Capito, Collins, Blunt, Cornyn, Gardner, Thune, Isackson, McConnell, Wicker, Cochran, Burr, Tillis, Portman.
Mark my words. Trump will use other funds to pay for this. It will be built, on time, on budget.
I thought money was already allocated for this and then never spent?
Boy, we are told (sold) one bag of goods after another by the GOPe aren't we?
The Republican party doing the work they are paid to do.
I’m call BS on this move. Build it! And add another six feet to the top and mine the base of it while you’re at it! I’ve had it!
Right. This is part of the problem that the “repeal now” people don’t get-—and I fully sympathize with “repeal now.” But the fact is we aren’t even close to a real “governing” majority of people who would enact our agenda.
As you point out, we’re a good 70 votes away in the senate.
Totally agree...
That's K Street talking right there. I'd get banned if I posted what I am really thinking.
