Of all the terrible things Obamacare has caused this one is particularly egregious to me personally. You and many others are in a place where for some reason there is no competition and only 1 insurance provider. So what Obamacare has essentially done is a mandatory wealth transfer from you and all the people in your community into the hands of that singular provider. It is a law that says "you people over here, give your money to that company over there." You have no choice. No matter how horrible they are, even if they break the law, even if they break the terms of the contract, or single you out for punitive attention, you have no choice. You have no remedy. Your only choice is to hand them your money, or defy the law and pay the penalty, um, tax. I don't know if the USSC did not see this outcome, or if they did why they allowed it. But they have ruled that the government can now force a citizen through coersion to enter into contracts with other private 3rd parties against your will even if they fail to honor the terms of the agreement the government forced you to enter! From here anything is now possible. It must be repealed.

Absolutely. I personally have no need for Cadillac care that pays for office visits and am on a couple very cheap generic drugs I take only as needed.
So what my $800/mo policy provides for me is only the comfort that I won't go bankrupt from a 6-figure medical bill.
The only current alternative is pay the penalty for no insurance and roll the dice I won't have a major occurrence. Not cool with me.

Provider of what, exactly?

You are correct that it is a wealth transfer scheme. Now, take the next step.

To WHOM is the wealth being transferred, and for what purpose?

Payments to maintain electricity generators on poles in your town are not "wealth transfers". Payments to fix broken air traffic control radars are not a "wealth transfer".

The massive harvesting of "insurance" premiums in the health sector, on the other hand, is part of the reason the net worth of Members of Congress, who make $174 000/year, retire as multi-millionaires.
