“Read history from about 1852 through the start of the Civil War. Things now are not nearly as different as they seem on the surface.”

I am very familiar with the history of the Civil War.

That is one reason why I posted this.

There are many similarities between the Democrat Party today and the Democrat Party at the time of the Civil War.

The secession that caused the Civil War was the direct result of a plot in the Democrat Party to create a slave based economy ruled by a tiny elite.

In the 1850’s America was a one party state run by the Democrat Party. The Order of the Golden Circle was a Democrat Party organization pushing for secession. The Kansas Nebraska Act was a repeal of the Missouri Compromise that would create a slave based economy throughout the Midwest and the west.

The Republican Party was a new party when Lincoln won the presidency. Lincoln almost did not make it to Washington alive.

Democrat politicians in Baltimore with support of Democrats in Washington D.C. organized violent riots and tried to have Lincoln killed.

It was only the moral strength and resolve of the Republican Party that preserved the union and freed the slaves.

There already existed a slave base economy ruled by a tiny elite. What you don't seem to grasp is the fact that the elite which was ruling things was in New York. Same as today.

The South challenged that rule, thinking they could own that economy. The elite of New York demonstrated to them that this wouldn't be permitted.

They could have slavery. They could not have economic independence from their North Eastern masters.

Moral strength of the average people and the troops, the government was no more moral then than it is now, a fact then hidden by the fact that States still actually retained some authority and rights. Economic and raw power issues pushed it all over the edge, not morality, and absolutely not moral outrage over slavery in the ranks of those who could avoid or start the war.

The desire of Northern money men to have no rival elite was matched by the determination of the Southern money crowd to not be dictated to was the root cause. That left no room for compromise so both North and South had to provide the people who would do the dying with a rationale they would die for.

We're seeing the same sort of determination not to be dictated to rising again across a wide swath of this country and the same desire for no rival to their authority of the Northeast and West Coast elite that led to a situation where no compromise was going to be made prior to the Civil War. I repeat, we're also seeing the same determination not to be dominated vs. that desire for no rival fought out between large and small media, more often than not, wrapped in moral outrage by both sides.

There's a huge difference between the morality and moral perceptions of those who do the fighting in wars and those who have the power to avoid or unleash them. Those in power have only rarely let any moralaity enter into their decisions about what best furthers their agenda and strengthens their grip on power. They didn't at the time of the Civil War, they don't now. What moral outrage they use to induce the unwashed masses the manipulate morning, noon, and night, anyway to fight is another matter.

The democrat party was then and is now the party of eugenics, racism, and dictatorship with or without a velvet glove on the iron fist. They've never changed and they never will. JMHo
