GOP House leaders delayed their planned vote Thursday on a long-promised bill to repeal and replace "Obamacare," in a stinging setback for House Speaker Paul Ryan and President Donald Trump in their first major legislative test.
The decision came after Trump, who ran as a master dealmaker, failed to reach agreement with a bloc of rebellious conservatives. Moderate-leaning Republican lawmakers were also bailing on the legislation, leaving it short of votes. [...]

Repeal, don’t replace Obamabuse.
Let the free market take it from here. We’ll all be MUCH better off.
A message to moderates?? LOL. The moderates and establishment like the bill and are going to vote for it. It is the conservatives saying, wait a minute - not so fast.
This!
ABC FakeNews editorializing in a report.
Not a setback. A tactic to get the legislation correct.
Earlier today, I listened to Jay Sekulow from the American Center for Law and Justice, (whose conservatism I respect greatly) talk about this healthcare bill.
And he pointed out, that while the bill may not be everything some conservatives may want, it does three major things that would get his vote. (And mine too.)
1. It completely defunds Planned Parenthood.
2. It sends block grants for Medicaid back to the states.
3. It completely eliminates the Obamacare mandate that required everyone to buy insurance.
4. It eliminates the Obamacare taxes, including the retro taxes from January of this year.
As he pointed out, a Reconciliation bill can’t be used for legislative tweaks, but only for budgetary items.
I think some of these congressmen/congresswomen are enjoying the limelight too much and need to take advantage of this great opportunity and vote for this bill.
Could ABC be a little more snarky? I doubt it.
Yes, I think a Medicaid solution would be a lot less expensive and complicated than making everyone suffer. Give the Medicaid money to the states to cover those that truly need it, and that could cover someone that lost their job through no fault of their own and couldn’t afford COBRA, etc. The states should not have to pay for illegals, etc., and other states should not pay for CA illegals coverage. Refugees too for that matter.
This is no setback to the President This whole thing is Paul Ryan's fault. Because he's an arrogant jackass"
Bears repetition
President Trump likes to win.
For the life of me, I don't see how anyone coupld believe that President Trump wants to sign (and be blamed for) some piece of legislation that doesn't accomplish the goals of reducing premiums, etc.
The President doesn't want to sign crappy legislation, because he'll get blamed for crappy legislation. The President wants to pass legislation that will actually address the main problems, specifically premiums that are skyrocketing, for one.
The President and his team are clearly thinking far beyond the shallow rhetoric that passes for "analysis" around here.
It seems that no matter how many times Donald Trump proves that he's not the lightweight buffoon that some accuse him of being—like, say, winning the Presidency against all odds and universal establishment opposition, for example—the hand-wringers return immediately to their hysteria as soon as the next "crisis" arises.
If I'm convinced of one thing, it's that President Trump is operating on a level far beyond anything I can approach by spouting my 2 cents' worth on a conservative internet forum.
Paging SubMareener...
Since the changes to please the Freedom Caucus there are now more moderates against the bill than conservatives.
Charlie Dent is trying to get his Tuesday Group RINOs to block it.
Do you feel right siding with Charlie Dent?
(Yeah, I admit it’s still not a bill worthy of any praise.)
“Set back”.
Says ABC.
LOL!
TRUMP has not even but started to negotiate squat.
Trump has simply let Ryan hang himself, and he himself has continued to say exactly what he has always said from the beginning and what the FREEDOM CAUCUS has been saying. Repeal and replace. Lower premiums. No mandates.
Wah Lah! We have a delay.
No, he said that if it wasn’t tinkered with to become a good bill for America he wouldn’t sign it when it got to his desk.
Trump cheered for the Ryan children playing in the front yard, while leaving the back screen door of WH open for the Freedom Caucus.
I remain highly optimistic.
This is just d#mned deal doin’.
Populism isn’t always common sense. They just tell people what they want to hear to get reelected.
Take a look at how the South voted. Ted Cruz and all his minions on the internet and radio beat the crap out of the "free market" stuff, and "muh constitution," and "freedom!", even as Cruz stood there on stage and stood up for Chinese manufacturing. People like Ben Shapiro and National Review spoke all day long about free market economics. What was the result?
Trump, accused of being a moderate, or even an economic liberal, dominated the South during the primaries and won middle America and moderate to left leaning states. The South didn't care about Cruz's "conservative principles," because, as it turns out, they're Patriots with a strong populist bent. Esoteric conservatism with its pretensions towards economic libertarianism and hard line solutions right on down to privatizing social security or raising the retirement age is just something that even southerners don't care about.
And if you don't even have the south you don't have conservatism.
I would say, "let's kill this abstract, utopian ideology," but it's already dead. Trump killed it. Ben Shapiro, Mark Levin, National Review, they were all right that Trump would kill conservatism. He did. But now we have something a lot better: common sense Nationalism, free of any ideology except America First.
I don’t want lipstick on a pig. They’ve had over 7 years to develop a plan and 0bamacare lite is not what got them elected in the first place.
