What did Davey Crockett say to Jim Bowie when he saw 5,000 Mexicans running towards the Alamo?
Try being in a state run by mentally ill Socialist. The lunacy here is more than most could handle. I’ve never seen such a bureaucratic unmitigated disaster. It’s surreal.
Concrete is here!
50% of RNs in NC make 58k or less per year many with Bachelor Degrees. Do you really think someone who tends grapes should earn within about 7 dollars an hour of an RN?
...
The article mentions the guest workers where the winery is have to be paid a bit more than $10 an hour, and now I’m being asked to compare that to a 58k salary of a nurse. I don’t get it.
Hey Jim are we pouring concrete today?
There are many Americans working for minimum wage who would be happy to work for $12.57/hour.
They should not have done this after Trump was criticized for hiring foreign waiters during the debate.
Lot’s of misconceptions posted here. H2-A visa holders are not illegal. It’s sort of like the old Bracero program but with a lot more protections. The cost of ag production has to be taken into account here. To buy an acre of land on the Central California Coastal area will cost you around $70,000 per plus. To rent runs around $3,000 per acre per year. By the time you have an acre of lettuce ready for harvest you have $6,000 per acre invested, strawberries $28,000 per acre, raspberries $50,000 per acre, Napa premium wine maybe $100,000 per acre. The need is for reliable trained labor that will show up every day. The investment is too high to gamble on day labor, students, ghetto residents etc. H2-A is an answer to a problem that American farmers did not create. I am just amazed that here on this forum there are individuals aligning themselves with environmental extremists, social justice activists and lefty liberals in general.
Have you ever run a business?
Most of the one's criticizing have never, ever, in their lives written a paycheck for someone else.
The majority of kids today believe that employers owe them a high wage for the privilege of letting the little snowflakes sit there on their phones texting and playing on facebook. Work? Show up on time? Not have an attitude? That's for chumps in their pea brained mind. Most of them would never consider a field job getting their hands dirty.
What does that have to do with it? $20.00/hr will attract enough local help around here. They don’t want local help. They don’t advertise for help and the Mexicans get trucked in every year.
It takes 5 minutes to learn how to pick fruit. They don’t want Americans. F them and their fruit.
I have no problem with legal and documented foreign worker using work permits. It is the way the system is supposed to work and would be a great step forward to solving the crisis.
It is the illegal workers with no permits or documentation, using stolen or forged SSNs, bleeding our social programs, not paying taxes and demanding citizenship. That is the problem.
What crises it that? An ethics crises where greed landowners don't want to pay Americans decent wages?
Takes a little longer to learn how to drive a $350,000 John Deere with a $40,000 Trimble GPS. Can do a lot of damage in a hurry. But even thinning lettuce takes skill. The people you train today you want to show up tomorrow. But anyhow hope you hold to your convictions and boycott the food we grow.
To tell you the truth the engineered fruit form California sucks bigly.
Heck I’ll learn how to drive a BA tractor for $69K. I’ve watched the Mennonites do it long enough ;)
Sounds like you know what you’re doing and I agree your wages are fine.
Is this H2-A the program that would bring in pickers on a seasonal basis?
If you are a euro-american he wouldn’t hire you. It would piss off the Mexican Mafia that he is deathly afraid of.
It has to do with the fact that the man has years of experience running his business that you don't have. He has capital at risk that you don't have.
$20.00/hr will attract enough local help around here.
And what would the advertising costs be to attact them? And how much time would it take to assemble them? And once they were assembled, would they know what to do? Would they know what not to do? If they didn't know, how long would it take to train them? What would it cost to train them? Could you even get them all trained before the crop rotted in the field? If you trained 100 and 30 decided to quit, how long would it take to replicated the above process? How much would repeating this process cost?
He knows the answers to all these questions. You don't.
