POLICE last night revealed an arsenal of more than 10,000 weapons destined for the hands of terrorists and organised gangs around Europe.

A continent-wide operation stopped weapons including anti-aircraft guns, howitzers and grenades falling into the hands of extremists in France, Spain and Belgium.

Before 1968, you could buy them through the mail (shipping would be rather expensive, I presume) and ammunition.

Most of the guns in the pictures are probably legally deactivated. It is pretty common in Europe and the article alludes to deactivation.

A howitzer in unfriendly hands, inside the perimeter of effective fire, could destroy any capitol or executive mansion in a few minutes, if they know what they are doing. Very hard to stop, but the Israelis have put protections in place.

I do not know if the defenses exist in D.C.

I very much doubt that they exist in Europe.

I suspect the dumba** reporter has no idea what a howitzer actually is, and is calling the artillery rounds "howitzers". Kind of like how know-nothings call mortar rounds "mortars". You'd think that after 17 years of war, dipsh*t reporters would have learned something about the military and military hardware. Guess not.
