Syria deploys air defense system, fires missiles at Israel Air Force jets; Israeli missile defense system intercepts missile north of Jerusalem.
Syria and Israel engaged in the most serious incident between the two countries since the outbreak of the Syrian Civil War six years ago overnight on Thursday, as Israeli Air Force planes struck several targets in Syria.
In response, the Assad regime deployed air defense systems and fired a number of missiles towards Israeli jets. None of the missiles struck the jets, though one of the projectiles was intercepted by Israel's "Arrow" defense system north of Jerusalem.

Obama did things for them as well, he signed off on the defense aid package in the last year, 30 + billion dollars over a 10 year period.
This helps Israel with its missile defense systems to counter Iran. There has been joint Israel-USA work on missile defense during the Obama years.
Products that could be sold to Gulf Arabs since it would help protect them from Iran. Qatar was reportedly getting an anti-missile system through an American third party.
Yes, the Assad government appears to be legitimately elected.
Are arms as a routine funneled through Syria from Iran to Hezbollah, Hamas and who knows whomever else, to commit mayhem against Israelis? Yes, this has been going on for decades. Syria is also listed as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Not a good idea if Assad wants to keep his SAMs. Doubt Russia likes it either. Iran/Hizbollah, another matter.
The story of the Arab Spring deserves to be told, the McCain angle, the Saudi-Qatari angle, the Israel Lobby-Israel angle, the George Soros angle (”renegade Jew or loyal Jew defending Israel by isolating Iran”) etc. etc.

The second stage of it was handing Egypt over to the Muslim Brotherhood, which would have led to the end of peace between Israel and Egypt. The arming of Sunni terrorists who want to destroy Israel in Syria was no in Israels interest. a Sunni Islamist Syria would be terrible for Israel. It would also lead to either the collapse of Jordan, Israel going to war to protect he Hashemite regime in Jordan, or both. In fact, thanks to McCain-Obama-Clinton Treason, this may yet occur. (Arming Al Qaeda and ISIS is aiding and abetting the enemy in time of war. All three should be dangled at the end of a rope.)

I don’t see how regional instability benefits Israel or anyone else. If Assad were to go, which he is not, it would be like the PLO or Hezbollah taking over Syria. Moreover, Netanyahu just came back from a trip to Russie if I remember correctly. I don’t get it.

This is Netanyahu’s policy, and he needs to go. Israel committed themselves to regime change in Syria, without fully working out the consequences.

I marvel at how that Arrow shot down an SA5. Did the F15 and other aircraft use the SAs radar track to fire the Arrow from the ground in anticipation of the SA shot??? How did it get there so fast?
