I managed to keep it together (sort of) when they played taps at my Dad's funeral, but when the sailor handed the folded flag to my Mom and said "Thank you for your husband's service to our country" that's when I lost it. He was a WW II vet.
Nothing wrong with men crying, any veteran of combat will tell you that outright. Men cry.
What is significant is WHAT you cry for.
(It was the same for me at my dad’s funeral at Arlington as well. When the officer bent over with his white gloved hands holding the flag and said that in a subdued and respectful voice to my mother, it was like a emotional stab in the heart. Not in a bad way, but if someone doesn’t feel that, I think there is something missing inside them.)
