Thanks for the link to the maps (post 137).

I just looked at the first one. The one thing that jumps out at me is the existing barrier going straight across land rather than trying to follow the tortuous route of the meandering river. Would make the barrier three times (or more) as long in some places.

Essentially the Rio Grande is being ceded to Mexico with the wall being on the north side. There is a map I've seen that back a few years when the Bush barriers were being discussed that shows in detail the actual border boundary. It actually doesn't follow the middle of the Rio Grande as many think but is more straight lined and thus the river meanders to both sides of the border line.
