Two books that are great:

Cholesterol Clarity
Keto Clarity

Can’t remember the authors names but you should be able to just google the book title. Also Keto Adapted by Maria Emmerich

Cholesterol Clarity
Keto Clarity

Those are the ones that got me started.

I just retired at 76 years old. I worked full time on computer controlled electro-mechanical devices. Always prided myself on my expertise.

About 10 years ago had a heart workup. 0 calcification, no indications of plaque, etc. but my cholesterol numbers were high. Was put on Statins. They didn’t change the numbers much so over the next few years so the dose was increased.

Long story short...I started having problems with sore muscles after heavy lifting which lasted months. I started having problems with cognition. Hard drive rebuilds, software troubleshooting became difficult and I had to start referring to manuals and notes. I would be working on reconfigurations and not be sure I hadn’t missed a step. I was convinced I was becoming senile. The muscle pains became constant. I was becoming depressed because I was convinced I was slowly dying. Fortunately, I overheard a nurse talking about the effects Statins had on her health and how “Keto” diet had helped her. She recommended those books.

SAVED MY LIFE.

Within a few months of getting off the statins I began to recover. My mind is clear, if I pull a muscle, it is clear in a couple of days.

I wonder how many elderly have “dementia” due to Statins blocking cholesterol from their brains.

When you really learn how your liver metabolizes what you've consumed, you realize how all the common notions about food and nutrition are upside down.

Fat does not mean fat.
Fat, in the absence of glucose (metabolized carbs) is turned into ketone energy. Not fat.

Carbs => fat
Sugars and carbs are easily converted into blood glucose. Get much at all of it and insulin is required to keep the levels down (high glucose is actually toxic) and it's kept down by being metabolized by the liver into fat. A wonderful mechanism that not only saves you from sugar toxicity but also has the survival benefits of storing fat on you for the lean times when carbs aren't around.

Also, most people don't realize that the Liver can metabolize protein and even alcohol into energy.
