Donald Trump Signals ‘Big Fat Beautiful Negotiation’ on House Healthcare Bill

President Donald Trump told reporters that a “big fat beautiful negotiation” was underway on the proposed house health care bill, after a growing number of conservatives have voiced dissent with the effort. “We’re negotiating with everybody,” Trump said. “It’s a big fat beautiful negotiation and hopefully we’ll come up with something that’s going to be really terrific.”

Trump made his remarks during a meeting with his cabinet at the White House — although four of them have yet to be confirmed by the Senate.

During remarks to reporters, Trump thanked Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for working “around the clock” on the effort to replace the Obamacare bill.

“I think that ultimately the big beneficiary will be the American people,” Trump said.

A handful of Republican Senators have signaled that they will not support the bill, raising questions about the bill’s ability to pass. Members of the House Freedom Caucus have also signaled that they will not vote for the bill as it currently stands.

Have you seen Cruz’s proposal? He found a loophole in the 1974 Budget Reconciliation Act that both completely destroys Obamacare and implements free-market reforms, in one felled swoop. And you can do with 51 votes in the Senate, not 60.

Nothing wrong with being hopeful.

*************

Any form of the word ‘hope’ in a political context makes me cringe. We had to listen to the “hope and change” mantra for the past eight years. And now we’re hearing it again.

Hope often means you have no idea what you’re doing and are simply wishing for something good to magically happen. That is not leadership.

I saw that. Do you think Mitch and his GOP-e brethren will have the will to use that? I am just asking, not being sarcastic.

“Watch me pull a Ryan out of my ass”.

Ryan is a pathetic asshat

He is making us look stupid, incompetent and completely heartless.

This plan has nothing to do with the ones proposed the last six times and vetoed by Obama

Cruz didn’t “find” anything. That’s the so-called nuclear option that you hear about every time there’s a potentially controversial, big piece of legislation.

I understand what you’re saying. And I appreciate the limitations that the reconciliation process imposes on “Phase I.” But....the healthcare issue is becoming emotional for good reasons. The GOP acted like it was ready to repeal and replace Obamacare but when the time came for action they were like a herd of deer staring into the headlights of an on coming car. They were clueless. If they don’t get their act together, we may all get run over.

Ryan was allowed to run with his own version of Rinocare. That alone is cause for alarm.

That’s definitely true, but I don’t know what else to do with the GOP, at least certainly nothing that I can post or speak of in public..., because all they do is fail and lie.

You are correct: the GOP is a pathetic excuse for a political party because (as you say) all they do is fail and lie. Weakness is deeply embedded in the party’s DNA. A culture of losing characterizes everything they do. They were given an historic chance of showing the world they can lead but have quickly dissolved into a state of confusion, acrimony and outright embarrassing behavior.

The Republicans snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Its what they do. Its who they are. It will never change.

I don’t think you can solve every problem thru negotiation. Even if you could negotiate a bill, I wouldn’t assume that would fix the problem.

Trump is in his element, a born negotiator whose business career has honed his skills to an art. So far he’s been two steps ahead of everybody, so there’s no reason to panic so early in the game. Everybody is upset and panicking - everybody except for Trump and Pence, that is.
