If they can’t even carry arms, a few remote control fire hoses should do the trick.

But the real cause is Trump halting these wonderful people a free ride to USA.

Pirates today, refugees tomorrow.

The Russian Navy uses Somali pirates for target practice—no prisoners taken.

It would be wise to hire 2 “security consultants”.

Remember, these pirates have an RPG pointed at your water line.

No armed protection.

Thinking and shipping apparently don’t go together.

And I’m all in favor of sending decoy ships out there with the sole purpose of turning pirates into fish food.

Like WWI Q ships, armed merchant vessels disguised as unarmed merchant vessels. The Kraut subs would surface to attack with deck guns to save torpedoes. The Q ship would unmask its batteries and blow them away.

I think the problem is the maritime insurers still prefer to pay the pirates off rather protect the crews & ships.

How about a fire fighting water cannon shooting flaming fuel oil on the water around the pirate’s boat.

It would better range than an RPG.
A drone with a C4 payload would work. A poor man’s cruise missile.

Captain Phillips is a good movie about oil tanker hijacking.

I was actually joking. I have seen a 6 inch water cannon at work in France to wash off the beaches.

When I googled for a picture I found that they already use the water cannon pirate protection..

I’d rather have a Hellfire.

Strap some C4 to a $1000 drone and intercept the pirate ship, detonating it when over the target. They won’t be shooting an RPG after that. They’ll be too busy trying to figure out if they are alive or dead.

...and that’s after they cleaned up!

I’ve read a couple of books on the Somali pirates. IMO, The Pirates of Somalia: Inside Their Hidden World by Jay Bahadour was the best of them. The author finagled his way, through contacts in their government, to interview several of the pirates hierachy. Pretty revealing and interesting stuff.

That's it?

Yes it is http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:1189268/mmsi:620094000/imo:9012501/vessel:ARIS_13

When the article said "large commercial vessel" I pictured something quite different.
