Preet Bharara leaves a legacy of ethics enforcement in New York that future attorneys should match
New York Daily News ^ | 03/11/2017 | Errol Louis

A man of his word, Preet Bharara ran afoul of a President who is a shameless, inveterate fabulist. In November, shortly after the election, Bharara met with then President-elect Donald Trump and his senior adviser, Jeff Sessions, who is now Attorney General.

After the sitdown, Bharara told reporters in the lobby of Trump Tower that Trump and Sessions had given assurances he could remain U.S. attorney of the Southern District.

Weeks later, to the surprise of absolutely no one, it turns out Trump's word, like the signage on his buildings, was made of cheap, bendable brass rather than valuable gold. In commerce, the terms of a Trump deal always remain subject to revision; in politics too, it seems a Trump handshake is more feint than firm promise.

That's a shame, because Preet Bharara's brief, devastatingly effective tenure stands as a goal, guide and shining example for other public servants. He monitored the powerful with a wary eye — and, when necessary, pursued wrongdoers with great skill, energy and integrity.

Most importantly, he constantly reminded all of us in the public to join his crusades, by demanding better behavior from the titans of Wall Street, City Hall and Albany, and supporting reforms to help ensure that crooks get caught.

Bharara's insistence that New York reach for a higher ethical level rang out in the statement he released in May, shortly after the sentencing of former state Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos. "The nearly simultaneous convictions of (former Assembly Speaker) Sheldon Silver and Dean Skelos, whose corruption crimes were laid bare during fair and public trials, have no precedent. And while Silver and Skelos deserve their prison sentences, the people of New York deserve better."

Submitting a Resignation does not necessarily mean that it will be accepted.

It’s just Insurance that he would follow the current Administration’s Policies.

He screwed up. What did he think would happen?

He had to be smart enough to know that you can’t wound the King and live to tell the tale.

Interestingly, among his predecessors are Rudy Giuliani and James Comey.

The only issue I have with this is that he was hot on the heels of both Cuomo and DeBlasio - hopefully the new guy or girl will pick up where he left off otherwise we’ll never hear the end of both of them.

“I don’t think he should have been fired.”

So your okay with a political sacrifice say Dinesh’s hide so how about yours?
Should your life be sacrificed to satisfy the Rat gods?

Also, you’re writing here on FR. How about we prosecute you for your First Amendment comments here?

You okay with that too?

US Attorneys serve at the pleasure of the President, not Chuck Schumer and his underling Anthony Weiner, the Clinton Foundation or any number of other question marks such as the surveillance at Trump Tower.

We can’t rule out that Preet had a hand in that too. In fact, that he wouldn’t take the President’s call is another to the questionable list. If he had a hand in that; he wouldn’t be permitted to speak to the object of prosecution.

Bottom line; people need to get over themselves. The guy is fired. It’s done; there’s no crying with replacing US Attorneys with the change in administrations.

The media is in full virtue signaling mode. If you were the object of a frivolous government litigation, you would be screaming how unjust. But since it’s other people, that’s okay with you.

For cripes sakes, the narcissism that’s taken over this country.

You would be better off and not sound “so out of it” if you kept up with my more recent posts. But then I don’t really care what you think anyway.

Now now friend, don’t be so sullen and ugly because your opinion on Preet Bharara was flushed down the toilet.

It’s what you said. So stop complaining about it and cursing. No one made you say the Schumer rabid Dem clearing a path for himself and his masters should remain in the job as US Attorney.

It’s a free country. You can express a wrong opinion; it’s not the end of the world.

Besides, “He’s dead Jim.”

Now keep an eye out for what comes next with Weiner, Schumer and Co. because it’s going to be epic.

No one will remember your opinion at present. Or care.
