Harry Reid did half the job in getting rid of 60 vote rule. Time for Mc Connell to finish the job. His Majority is safe at least through the 2018 election.
I’d like to see a term limit on membership in each branch of Congress.
Serve the country for a period and then return to civilian life.
Because they have been running it since 1948 in one way or another, and huge majorities want them to?
When you hear them refer to “their friends across the aisle” you have to ask, “really?” It seems they are being serious at times. Like these. The thing we need to be doing is following up on our recent electoral victory by crushing these global Marxists into dust but our GOP elite seem determined to prevent any real harm from befalling their “friends”. It really gets old.
Ryan looks like Quagmire.
No.
Neither do I. He has been in office TWO MONTHS. This mess is ten years old at best and it will take time to fix. Patience has never been my strong point but I am trying. Go Trump! Transport all GOPe moles halfway to the moon.
Not entirely. Only to confirm the President's nominations to everything but the Supreme Court.
People say that if we end the filibuster rule that when the dems get back in power they'll have a clear path to ram through their agenda. I believe that if they retake control of the Senate killing the filibuster will be number one on their agenda. And THEN they'll ram through their agenda. Kill it now and at least then we'll see some advantage.
The filibuster needs to be killed. It's about damn time we do something that will actually make midterm elections meaningful because every midterm win we've had since the Reagan era has meant absolutely nothing.
Trump was supposed to provide leadership to overcome them, not to reinforce them.
We'd probably have to flip 14 or 15 to make up for Flake and McCain, Graham, Collins et al.
So get rid of the rule, pass all the important stuff, then pass a LAW requiring 60 votes for cloture. or better yet, an amendment.
Everyone seems to forget how many times this board has reacted to the appearance of Trump caving. He hasn’t yet, and I am comfortable waiting to see how this ends because I think Trump will come out on top. At least we have someone arguing for conservatism in Washington now. As for phase 2 and phase three, if left to Ryan and McConnell, phase 2 would be more excuses, and phase three would be even more excuses.
That’s one of the arguments McConnell uses to keep from doing anything. Fine. Let’s keep the same old rules and tie our hands and keep President Trump from enacting the agenda he was elected to enact. Then when the dems retake the Senate you can be damned sure they’ll finish what Harry started and ram THEIR agenda down our throats without us having done anything meaningful while we control both houses and the WH. Typical Republican bullshit. I don’t know why it bothers me, it’s what they’ve done all my f*cking adult life. I should be used to it by now!
I have a feeling that firing Mitch McConnell would solve it very quickly.
In 2008, GOP said they couldn’t do anything to prevent DeathCare. In 2010, we gave them the House. Nothing.
Then they said they couldn’t do anything without the Senate. In 2014, we gave them the Senate. Meaningless bills.
Then they said they couldn’t do anything without the Presidency. In 2016, we gave them the Presidency.
We are now going to get screwed AGAIN. 2018 is closer than you think.
“...term limit...”
Yes strongly agree. Term limits would solve so much of this power play finagling that is not in the American taxpayers interest.
Just implement Rule 19....limits discussion on the topic to two speeches for each Senator ,....and requires a 50% vote to pass when all Senators have had their two speeches.
As someone new to dealing with the political scum of this country, I'm willing to give Trump some latitude regarding his tacit acceptance of this "initial step", however as he did with leaving the Obama scum in place throughout the bureaucracy, he should not make the same mistake and underestimate the gutlessness and deceit of these GOPe vermin.
If term limits are appropriate for the President it should
also be appropriate for the Congressional Delegation.
