The number of people illegally crossing the U.S. southern border has dropped 40 percent in President Trump’s first full month in office, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly said Wednesday. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol reported that the number of illegal border crossings dropped from 31,578 to 18,762 persons. Kelly said border agents usually see a 10 to 20 percent increase in illegal immigrant apprehensions from January to February.
“The drop in apprehensions shows a marked change in trends,” Kelly said. “Since the administration’s implementation of executive orders to enforce immigration laws, apprehensions and inadmissible activity is trending toward the lowest monthly total in at least the last five years.”
The new numbers are welcoming news for Trump who campaigned on illegal immigration crackdown.
Trump signed an executive order increasing border security and authorizing the construction of his promised border wall along the southern border in the first few days of his presidency. Trump also seeks to hire about 5,000 additional border patrol officials and 10,000 ICE agents and seeks to fast-track deportations.

I don't understand how we know exactly how many are coming across, yet we can't stop them ?????
There were fewer apprehensions, ergo fewer crossings.
Stop counting, and start shooting !
The numbers indicate those being apprehended while illegally crossing the border.
It decreased by that much because of the rain.
It will pick back up soon.

What if they figure if they don’t cross for a while, the dems will talk us out of the wall....
As much as I love our guys and gals in law enforcement, how do they know this? Do they have someone counting the illegals as they cross? Are they going by how many they caught and multiplying by some factor. This is nothing more than a guess.
Democrats will now say that there is no longer a need to build the wall.
Democrats will also say that Trump is killing jobs, because those people dealing in illegal transportation of people will have to cut staff.
Democrats will also point to disenfranchisement of those Mexican voters, since they won’t be able to enter the country to cast their votes.
That’s a shame.

I think Trump could avoid building a wall all together with the right set of rules & enforcement.
Eliminate the chance of getting a job or money and the illegal immigration would stop and those already here would deport themselves (as soon as they voted for a Democrat). We are already seeing that just with the threat of these activities.
Of course, the pleasure of getting the Mexican government to pay for a wall would be worth having it as a back up and visual evidence of our resolve.
The good man who has been taking care of our yard for decades is getting more calls to maintain yards than he can handle.
He had a green card and worked for another yard care company. We realized that he was the best worker that company had.
He told us that he wanted to go into business and use his extended legal family here. We helped him to get a line of credit for his new business and to become a citizen. We guided him to a friendly banker to buy a home. Next, we helped his wife to become a citizen. All of his brothers, sisters and cousins are America citizens.
Home owners/small business owners are becoming aware, that if they hire an illegal for their yard maintenance or house cleaning, they might have some serious legal problems.
One couple had the same guy for decades, and they assumed that he was a citizen. They asked him if he was a citizen, and he said yes. Then, they told him that they were going to run an E verification on him and he refused to give them his SS # and the data. They told him not to come back until he had E verification. He has lost 6 customers in that neighborhood, those who voted for Trump. His Clinton customers are not concerned.
We are seeing less amigos with pickups loaded with yard care gear and no signs on their pickups naming their yard care service company in our area and on the local roads.
This trend towards using legal yard care companies has been growing in this area since Trump won the election last November.
One young blue eyed, blond hair Anglo Saxon had his own and very successful/legal yard care service for about 5 years. He got a financial offer that he couldn’t refuse for his company and he took it. He will still manage some large local commericial and local goverment outside areas and get paid for his skills. He was bought out between Christmas and New Years. Those buying his company, knew what was going to happen in this area when hiring illegals wasn’t going to work anymore. They have added several more pickups and legal workers to their new company.
I’m sure the above is being replicated throughout California as part of the Trump effect

It can’t be working. We were assured that there is nothing that can be done to secure the border.
Fewer arrests mean fewer crossings... If there are fewer arrests despite an increase in border enforcement. If you increased border enforcement, you’d expect an increase in arrests unless fewer people are crossing.
