Barack and Michelle Close to Signing Record-Breaking Deal Worth Over $60 MILLION For Memiors
Daily Mail ^ | 17:49 EST, 28 February 2017 | Chris Spargo

Barack and Michelle Obama have whipped the literary world into a frenzy with the news that the former president and first lady are getting to work on new books, and looking for a publisher. Multiple people with knowledge of the joint publishing deal currently on the table for global rights to both memoirs tell the Financial Times that bidding has already surpassed $60million in what is described as the 'most hotly anticipated deal of the year.' And that amount could grow as there are no shortage of interested publishing houses, with Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, Harper Collins and Penguin Random House said to be interested in the deal. It is Penguin however who appears to have the slight edge, having published Barack's three previous titles.

There is no release date for either of the memoirs, but news of who will be securing the rights could come as early as Tuesday evening. That would mean the Obamas 'yuuuuge' deal might be announced just as President Trump prepares to address a joint session of Congress for the first time in office. There is also a chance however that it could take weeks to finalize the deal. No matter how long it takes however, no book deal has ever come close to paying an author this much money, with the closest example being the the $150million James Patterson reportedly received from Hachette in 2009 as part of a 17-book deal. That breaks down to a little less than $10million a book, as opposed to he $30million Barack and Michelle each stand to make in their deal.

Money laundering for favors???

That is exactly what it is.

A way to steal money from stockholders and give it to favorite liberal polititians.

Publishers know they will never recover their money from these outrageous advances.

Simon & Schuster gave Hillary Clinton a $14 million dollar advance for her book "Hard Choices" and the last I read is that they are $10 million dollars in the red on the deal.

Even if the publisher cleared an unlikely $10 a copy on an Obama book they would have to sell 6 million copies to just cover the advance to the Obamas.

Then there are the costs of publishing, distributing, promoting, etc., etc.....

Deferred bribes ... nobody will buy the books, will be at the $2.00 table at Walmart.

Can't wait to read Barack's revelation of why he couldn't make it to the White House Situation Room the night of the Benghazi Islamic terrorist attack.

Was he all doped up on coke or crack again?

Was he in the hot tub with his 'body man' Reggie Love?

Or did he just not give a damn?

I would spend some money if, in return, they would just go away and I never have to see his stupid mug or hear his boring, lying, droning, ummm, uhhhh, ummmm voice again!

Its the INTERNATIONAL publishing rights that are where the big money can be made on book sales.
Just like with movies. 2016’s top grossing movie was Captain America: Civil War ($1 billion, 153 million in sales).
The movie made 35% of its gross sales in the U.S. ($408 million) and 65% overseas ($745 million).

I’m guessing Iran is going to funnel back some of those unmarked bills that landed on skids.

Was all part of the deal.

Very suspicious transaction. No way they’ll sell more than a few thousand books, so the sellers are washing a lot of money.

They are selling their names basically. Advertising for a few years. 2 hardcovers and 2 softcovers. I’m sure the publisher will stretch that out over years and have the kenyan as the front man on their publications/PR.

I divided $60,000,000 by $29.99 and came up with a little over two million. I figured half went to the retailer so that’s four million. Others can check my math.

Shouldn’t they just receive a percentage of the earnings, why pay more then the memoir is apt to earn.

I’m in Orange County. Most of my neighbors are on the right. LA and SF is where the lefties roam the earth like dinosaurs unaware of the comet hurtling toward the planet.

If I was a stockholder I would sell my shares. This will be a huge loss and the Publisher should be fired immediately for signing that deal.

No kidding...no one would actually buy such crap.

What would be the point?
There are a couple of dozen books, all documented and unchallenged, and painfully descriptive of the 'Movin Up' Chicago thug couple.

Who wants to read fiction, like Omugabe is actually Kunta Kinte's Great-great-great-etc Grandson? And the First Saquatch is a far descendant of Lucy from the Afar Triangle of Ethiopia... also of royal blood.

Someone hopes they’ll tell the truth. They won’t. The Clintons didn’t.

I think it was it P.T. Barnum who said, “There’s a sucker born every minute.” Never more true than now.
