>>the media right to slander, lie and create conclusions in search of a case.

Rita,
I posted this to another thread, but it is an appropriate response here for any who would think the media has carte blanche to slander, lie, etc.:
In 1833, Justice Joseph Story had this to say about the necessary limitations on the Freedom of the Press:
The next clause of the [first] amendment respects the liberty of the press.Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.
That this amendment was intended to secure to every citizen an absolute right to speak, or write, or print, whatever he might please, without any responsibility, public or private, therefor, is a supposition too wild to be indulged by any rational man.
This would be to allow to every citizen a right to destroy, at his pleasure, the reputation, the peace, the property, and even the personal safety of every other citizen.
A man might, out of mere malice and revenge, accuse another of the most infamous crimes; might excite against him the indignation of all his fellow citizens by the most atrocious calumnies; might disturb, nay, overturn all his domestic peace, and embitter his parental affections; might inflict the most distressing punishments upon the weak, the timid, and the innocent; might prejudice all a mans civil, and political, and private rights; and might stir up sedition, rebellion, and treason even against the government itself, in the wantonness of his passions, or the corruption of his heart.
Civil society could not go on under such circumstances. Men would then be obliged to resort to private vengeance, to make up for the deficiencies of the law; and assassinations, and savage cruelties, would be perpetrated with all the frequency belonging to barbarous and brutal communities.
It is plain, then, that the language of this amendment imports no more, than that every man shall have a right to speak, write, and print his opinions upon any subject whatsoever, without any prior restraint, so always, that he does not injure any other person in his rights, person, property, or reputation; and so always, that he does not thereby disturb the public peace, or attempt to subvert the government.
It is neither more nor less, than an expansion of the great doctrine, recently brought into operation in the law of libel, that every man shall be at liberty to publish what is true, with good motives and for justifiable ends.
And with this reasonable limitation it is not only right in itself, but it is an inestimable privilege in a free government.
Without such a limitation, it might become the scourge of the republic, first denouncing the principles of liberty, and then, by rendering the most virtuous patriots odious through the terrors of the press, introducing despotism in its worst form.

Not buying it.
It's the transcript!
Hmm, didn't know that. Boxer has been a disaster. Makes you wonder if GHWB only wanted one term and was passing the torch to Clinton.
That is a really good excerpt! Worth posting as an original article. I’d love to bookmark it.
What the hell is wrong with you? How old are you? Good God, grow up. W is a NWO globalist slug just like his Daddy.
He started the invasion of Iraq to get even for his father over an alleged plot by so called Iraqi types in Kuwait to kill the old man. I always questioned that. The idiot could not fly and never saw war.
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... You must not speak of that here. The Bush family’s little fanboy turds here might object!
I would have more respect for what he’s saying if he had also said something when Obama was in office.
The press is worthless if their reporting is false. We don’t need that kind of press. We need integrity brought back and they need to be consistent no matter who’s in office. It seemed like they had no curiosity at all about the goings on in the WH when Obama was in there. It was all puff. With Trump it’s been one attack after another and a lot of it made up.
If he’s not Christian (although I’m sure he thinks he is) and he’s not Conservative, what is he? In your opinion, I mean.

You didn’t ask me, but I offer my opinion anyway ; )
All the Bushes are part of the globalist power elite crime syndicate that have used “religion”, and “conservatism” to delude many throughout the decades, as they further their NWO goal. They are no better than Soros, just differently “assigned”.
“Gee Dub....remember when your Daddy, Oliver North and I ran that coke and weapons operation out of Mena Ark. Airport in 1985-’86?.....” Good God, to think that there are STIL some FReepers who support these Bush globalists. Pathetic.
Dittos. Well said.
“Gee Billy Boy! Look! Our latest flight of Tootski is in! Mena airport rules huh Hillary”!?
He is a traitor...
Since I cannot change my screen name (I joined in the midst of the hanging chad controversy and was so worried about Kerry), I am now thinking of ending posts with...
bushwon—now wishing he hadn’t :(
I have learned so much about him since his election and since he left office...I used to think he was different from his dad—now I know they are all part of the same traitorous cabal :(
Truth hurts, Toots. Not my fault if you're offended by the truth. You want some more truth? The truth is I find tools like you repulsive with your total lack of critical thinking, yet you seem to be able to find offense when your foolishness is pointed out. Funny you were too dull to see what a RINO your disgusting idol was when you were fawning over him, but sharp enough to pick up on what I think of tools like you now.
Or to put it another way you shouldn't be insulted by the truth, and that you are reflects on you - poorly.
.....there were lovely Freepers on that thread

He is trying to sell a book
I don’t believe he campaigned for any candidates during the past 8 years except for his brother. Of course he withheld an endorsement from Candidate Trump, and there are numerous accounts that he and his wife did not vote for President Trump.
Like many elites, he is much more comfortable taking swipes at the outsider who wants to change things.
Sorry I believe he said what he wanted to say— trying to diminish if not outright sabotage President Trump the day before President Trump’s most important speech since his inauguration.
~bushwon, now wishing he hadn’t :(
After all these years. . I'm finding out the more I know, the more naive I feel. What really goes on inside the Beltway? Allegiances, loyalties, trust, motives.
Hope Trump is navigating through all of this okay. He sure seems street savvy. If anyone can do this, he can.
Prayers up for Trump daily.
